I have put up with a lot of bad dining experiences, but none have ever drove me to leave a review until now. Me and my husband are major Korean bbq fans and recently moved to SLC. We found Gosu off instagram and thought it seemed great since the instagram makes it look so good. We were so excited to try it. The first time we went, it was for lunch and we were the only customers there. We quickly realized how low quality and not good the appetizers and meats were. There was only one lady working at that time, so we gave them benefit of the doubt that maybe it was just an off day. The second time we came was for dinner. It was a different server than we had before, this lady looked like she was the owner. She was awful to us. From the start, everything we ordered was met with weird judgmental looks, silence, and death stares. Then my husband accidentally spills his drink on the table. We clean up most of it, and flag down another employee to help with the rest of it since we ran out of napkins. From that moment on, it was like that owner lady HATED OUR GUTS. While we were cooking our meat, she came and said in a rude voice “do you want me to help you cook your meat??” Uhhhh… no??? Why would we?? She knew it was not our first time, since she had asked us earlier. We said with smiles “no, that’s okay!” and she said, again rudely, “it’s the Korean way to cook all your meat at the same time, not one by one.” Ok? Cool? We don’t want to do it that way. It was so obvious she was trying to get us OUT of there quickly. I have been to SO many kbbq places and have NEVER had an owner/server make a comment about how we choose to cook our meat. After we finished our FIRST round of meat, she came and said “Finished?” Huh??? What is the point of all you can eat bbq if you rush everyone constantly??? Also, we were perfectly within the 1.5 hour time limit the entire meal, so it’s not like we were going over on time and that’s why they were rushing us. No, they just do this to everyone apparently. The portions of meat are super small, which would be fine if they actually came back to take our orders and weren’t trying to push us out the door!! Me and my husband felt so uncomfortable from her death stares that we literally thought about just paying and leaving hungry after that first round. But for $30 per person, I did NOT want to leave hungry. We placed another round, again, with every single thing we asked for it was met with judgement and anger. We eat our second round of small portioned meats, and another server comes to the table and says “Finished with the grill?” again, pushing us out the door. Even though we were both still hungry, I gave up, paid, and left. What an awful experience. Gosu could’ve had 2 regulars, but instead they lost...
Read moreWe came here because Tonkatsu Shabu Shabu had a sign on their door saying they “moved” last month to be part of Gosu Korean BBQ. It’s now AYCE, which is a bit disappointing, but was made more so by inattentive waiters. The service was not very good and the employees didn’t seem to know what to do with the shabu shabu portion of the menu. It didn’t feel like they were really prepared for Shabu: the tables don’t have hot plates built in except for BBQ and they had to bring out portable bunsen burners with live flames. It took a very long time to get our broth set up, and they were bringing out raw meat before we even had broth to cook it in. They had to enter every item on an iPad, which is weird for AYCE—for inventory, I assume—but they didn’t always remember to bring out what we ordered and often had to be reminded several times. On top of that, the large west-facing windows didn’t have shades as the sun went down. Once it did, we discovered the light at our table was out. With the black paint and few lights, it was hard to see. The bathrooms were clean, but they felt sketchy: there were no paper towels, the soap was out in the men’s room, and they had softsoap in a foaming hand soap dispenser in the ladies’ room, which was weird. I brought my dad and elderly grandma because service had been so clear before, and it was a bit difficult and awkward. Once we got the food, it was very good, but it was hard to get a waiter’s attention for refills on anything even though they had maybe half a dozen employees working. There was one other party of two in the restaurant for the first hour we were there, but we were the only people there the second hour. Our meal took two hours because the service were so slow and...
Read moreDefinitely would not recommend. We were told $30 but be careful because they'll charge a tip for everyone seated at the table. I thought it was just a tip per table, but no they charged the tip for ever single person we had in Our group. Someone from Our group ordered a coke and water and they ended up bringing out coconut water. When we told them this isn't what We ordered the lady that gave Us the drink said it was on them since it was their mistake but upon leaving the women handling the card machine told us, "But did you drink it?" I ended up paying for it. The tip I wouldn't have minded but the entire night they could not keep up with our food and drinks. The food came out slow, by the time one table was done eating the next table's food came out. It was ridiculous. Also the whole all you can eat appetizers is not really what it is. They limit you to order 4 at a time but then never come back to the table to refill or ask if we needed much. Even when ordering Our appetizers they kept telling Us they were out of this and that. All in all the tip was definitely not deserved but they still took it from Our entire group. All in all, first and last time at this place. Would not recommend this place! We should've took a hint when it was only Our group on a Saturday night! Usually all restaurants are crowded and packed on a Saturday night but it was only Our group in there and it did not make sense that they were running behind. So yes, definitely would not recommend! First and last! Way too pricey,...
