We tried this place since it was (unofficially?) declared the best pho in Utah. By the Vietnamese chef who beat Iron Chef Bobby Flay (twice!). I didn't hype this place up in my head beforehand because we've tried enough pho places in Utah not to get our hopes up.
The short of it is: This place does mostly everything right. I ordered the Pho Dac Biet (meaning special, essentially all the meats), the staple of any pho restaurant and I have two issues with the pho. The pho broth is sweet and the noodles are hard. I've noticed this is pretty common with pho places out here. Maybe its because they don't have access to good ingredients? They had all the right side veggies though. Bean sprouts, Thai basil and that bladed leaf veggie, Sawtooth Herb (culantro? No, not cilantro).
My wife on the otherhand had the Bun Bo Hue and said it had authentic flavor and even came with the side of cabbage which lots of Viet restaurants around here don't bring out. They also included pig feet and the pig blood cubes! Admittedly she didn't care for the pig blood cubes since they were a bit gamey.
My wife ordered the egg rolls and she loved them. I can't comment cuz I don't waste belly space with that. For a drink I ordered a Cafe su Dua that was also a bit on the sweet side. Can you imagine that?? I should taste the bitter coffee more than the condensed milk.
Service and ambience were awesome though! Overall I'd eat here again if the occasion calls for it but it's not my favorite spot. I'd say overall slightly above average. If you can't tell by now, I'm a bit of a pho snob. Growing up in socal and being part Viet, I had pho at least once a week, realistically 2-3 times a week. So finding a good pho place here is a big deal for me. The...
Read moreI went & grabbed Pho with my friend the other day. I’ve only had pho once & it wasn’t my favorite but I was looking forward to giving it another try & the reviews here are phenomenal! We were able to get a table quickly. The location is pretty small. We shared the Tofu spring rolls. These were delicious. I loved the peanut sauce that these come with! I would literally drink this peanut sauce, it was so good. We both ordered the Vegetable & tofu pho noodle soup. I got mine with vegan broth & my friend ordered the beef broth. Okay, this was soo good! I think I messed up on how many things I added to my broth last time unknowing. I tried the broth beforehand just to make sure I was only adding what I thought it needed. I added some bean sprouts, I love bean sprouts. They had two sauces we could add, one red & one brown. I was worried the red would be too hot for me so I added some of the brown sauce. It made it more savory. I really liked this sauce. I’m not sure what it was exactly. Staff checked in on us until near the end of our meal. We had a hard time getting a to go container for our pho soups. They start closing before closing time as well, so be prepared for that. We had someone spray the window close to us with window cleaner as we were eating & then I’m assuming the owner corrected the employee real quick to not do that because we were literally a foot away. The food was really good. I loved the veggies in the pho, I do wish they were cut up a little more though. It was kind of hard to eat the large pieces of broccoli. We both really liked that the tofu was cooked/grilled on the sides. I would definitely recommend this place & would love to go back. Perfect for the cold...
Read moreThe service and food were both great! I had forgotten a mask so my hubs went in to order takeout. They provided him with a disposable mask so that I could come in and eat there. We ordered spring rolls, bahn mi, pho (1 filet, 1 rare beef and brisket), a Thai iced tea and a pineapple smoothie. The spring roll was fresh and came with both a peanut sauce and a red chili oil. The mix of sweet and spicy went very well together. The bahn mi was large, slightly toasted to give a very satisfying crunch, and tasty. The pork was sweet and tender. The pho was tasty and the noodles were very soft. This broth is flavorful with a little more cinnamon and Cardamom hints to it than other places in the valley. I think a touch of salt on the meat when you first get it would make it perfect! The pineapple smoothie is made with real pineapple chunks so it has the natural mix of tart and sweet. The Thai tea was delicious. Portions were large and priced well.
Covid measures- you do need a mask to come in. There is a sanitizer station upon entrance. The staff cleaned tables shortly after people left from them, even if it was only somebody sitting there for a couple minutes as they waited for their...
