This is a true Vietnamese-owned Phò restaurant with many of the traditional Vietnamese offerings. However, they did not offer Banh Mi, the traditional Vietnamese sandwiches on French bread which restaurant such as, Oh Mi which specializes in such sandwiches in Utah. Candidly, I don't know how wide Oh Mi has locations. However, When it comes to the other traditional Vietnamese cuisine and drink s they have quite a variety of traditional drinks, which I personally do not care for so I cannot comment on how they are. However, family members that do enjoy them state that for Saigon Noodle House has a wonderful variety of drinks. It is interesting that being Vietnamese owned and operated they're able to easily take your order however to try to get engaged them and conversation is quite a challenge and somewhat fun seemingly for them as much as yourself. Additionally, it would be good if you do visit that you speak to them in English and encourage them to respond in English if they're having difficulties help them out. They really want to serve the people of Utah and if they could duplicate that restaurant I'm sure they would love to serve people elsewhere However when it comes to a family-owned restaurant infrequently do they duplicate the same quality in additional stores or franchised locations. I hope you will go here and try some of the traditional dishes the Phò is a soup that you can get a variety of meats that you have never tried before, just different parts of the cow that we in the US do not usually consume as well as rice noodles in beef bone broth. Each bowl of Phò is a company by a site plate that has mung beans, Thai basil which is very minty tasting, lime wedges and jalapeno slices. There are also condiments on the tables which are quite enjoyable once you acclimate to the capsin that is contained in a couple of these side condiments and of course believe it or not hoisin sauce. I cannot say enough about this restaurant we for approximately 33 years have sought Vietnamese restaurant and many of the US states and have found that the best ones usually are kind of the dumpy ones not say that Saigon is dumpy. It is one of the cleanest ones that we have enjoyed visiting several times. Phò Hoa, an international Vietnamese restaurant chain has a location just 2 miles down the road from Phò Saigon. We have visited a few Phò Hoa restaurants around the states and have enjoyed some very nice meals. However, in Salt Lake City or West Valley City a suburb of Salt Lake the chain restaurant cannot even compare to the family owned Phò Saigon restaurant that I am reviewing here. If you do not go there, you will have missed a truly cultural opportunity to learn about a different people on the other side...
Read moreBefore giving my review, I just wanted to make one quick note -- people that rate 1-star because they weren't seated quickly have never been to a legit Asian restaurant before and are probably as dumb as a doornail. Disregard those reviews unless you know nothing about Asian dining. If you are uncomfortable with Asian cuisine and are just getting your feet wet, perhaps start with something small like La-Cai downtown and work your way up to this place. Basically, if you know anything about the culture, you ought to know that you're there for the food, not to get your nails done and treated like royalty. You're there for a $7 bowl of pho, folks.
That being said, this place is INSANELY good. Don't be deterred by the retard reviews. In the past, we have always gone to Pho Cali across the street and absolutely love it, but Pho Saigon takes the cake. On our way to Pho Cali we noticed the Pho Saigon sign and hadn't realized it was there before. With the new hike in price at Pho Cali, we figured we'd give it a shot and we are glad we did. Wish we'd known about it before since they're so much cheaper than Pho Cali and the pho is just as good, if not better.
We walked in and sat in one of the booths, flagged someone over, and ordered. We were pretty impressed by their menu - I mean they serve everything you'd expect from a Vietnamese Pho joint. The pho is the best I've had in Salt Lake. It's on the same playing field as top notch pho in SF, Houston, Seattle, etc. Turns out they also have gan chao niu he (the flat noodle), vietnamese sandwiches, and a ton of other stuff. Will have to go back to try those later.
As someone who grew up in Asia, Salt Lake disappoints at times with diversity, culture, and ethnic food. But this place delivers. We'll definitely be going back here weekly. I believe the small Pho was $6.95 and the large was $7.75. The Vietnamese sandwiches were $3.50, and the Gan Chao was $7. Good value for legit food that you can't get anywhere else...
Read moreGood food but servers are rude. I walked in cause I was staying at a hotel next door. Walked to the counter cause i wanted to order take out. Was compleaty ignored, thought "Ok must be crazy busy". Looked for a while then golded the menu and waited for a server at the counter.
After waiting for what must have been 10 min I asked the person at the register if I could order a "213" or what ever i wanted ar the time. No real reapose other then an "ok"
Was waiting for him to write the order, maube explain what i will be charged... somthing, but ok maybe it busy ill wait. I sit at a table to rest. Still unsure if my order was acculy placed. I got up and tried to request the order again, but was informed that it was done. (Ok good not complaining realy just was weird)
The food was real good, so I ended up going again 2 days later, but this time i made a phone order and still had the same vague response, one I got to the place and picked it up they were happey to accept the payment but i informed them that I also orders a coconut drink, they said they didnt catch that and it wasnt on the order. Oh well i guess and out the door.... but I heard them hallering to eachother as I left. Feeling it was important i slowed my travel so they can catch me of needed. But never stopped i thought must be fine.
Once back at my room I realised that i was also missing my spring rolls, after calling they said they were trying to stop me but i was running out the door and they couldn't catch me.... (no i acculy slowed cause i thought something was off)
Anyway they said i could come back down and theyd be happey to have them ready.
I said great id also like to order that drink too. Once there i was charged 10.00, um what? For a drink, bot the price I saw on line.. they said that they brought the prices up since that was published.... just seems that the service can definitely use some work. Good food is good but seems like alot of truble...
