I'm a little disappointed. I lived in Columbus 16 years ago and Just Pies had the BEST pies. So good in fact, I stopped baking my own pies using my Grandmother's recipes. I moved back to Columbus two years ago. I was so excited to go to Just Pies, again. I went to the location on North High Street (that location has since closed). The pie was terrible. The crust was burnt and the filling, well let's just say canned filling tasted better. I decided to give them a try again at their Westerville location. The two ladies working there were absolutely wonderful! I popped in minutes before their five o'clock closing and they seemed genuinely happy to serve me; even though it was almost their quitting time. I must admit this pie was better by far than the last one. However, it just didn't seem to be the same quality as they used to be. The crust was light and flakey, but slightly burnt on one side and the top crust had seperated from the bottom crust in one spot. The filling tasted a little too tart for red raspberry. It is definitely better than a supermarket pie and a has a good price. I just wish they would bring back the old quality with the lightly golden brown crust and...
Read moreSo far I've had a banana cream pie and peach pie, as well as a chicken pot pie. Both desert pies were excellent. Instead of the typical coin slices of bananas you typically see in a banana cream, this had long, thick slices of banana, ensuring plenty of just the right amount of ripeness. The cream was light, fluffy and flavorful. The peach pie was loaded with ripe, but not mushy, peaches in a filling that was sweet, but not overwhelming. The crust was crisp and flakes with no hint of a soggy bottom. The chicken pot pie had plenty of nice chunks of chicken and plenty of vegetables in a thick, but not pasty, gravy. The only issue I had was that the bake time for the pot pie was insufficient for my oven. While the top crust was a little browned, the bottom and sides crust was just raw dough. I did buy another pot pie and will try to adjust my baking time to see.if I can get it right. Service was wonderful. Both times that I've been in, the employees were pleasant and friendly. I will definitely be trying out their other pies...
