Cosimo's Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Westfield

My husband I moved to Westfield about 3 years ago. DO NOT DINE HERE if you have gluten issues. My husband is celiac, and cannot ingest any gluten, so the fact that they have gluten free options was appealing. When we first ate there when we first moved to the area, we spoke to someone on staff and they assured us that they were educated on the issues of cross contamination. So, we've been eating there for 3 years, ordering the gluten free pie about once a week, and a regular separate pie for myself. Recently, I arrived early to pick up our pies, and was able to watch them prepare the pies while I waited.

This restaurant is a horror story for a gluten sensitive or celiac person. The pizza maker was sinking his hands into a bowl of flour to make the regular pies, then taking his hands covered with flour and pulling out the gluten free crust and using his flour filled hands to grab the toppings to spread on my husband's pie. The pies are cooked on the exact same rotating shelf in the oven as the gluten pies, put into the oven using the very same paddle as the gluten pies, and toppings are spread with flour covered hands. The foil liner in the bottom of both boxes were grabbed by the same hands. Also, before preparing them, the pizza maker opened both boxes fully, which were right next to the bowl of flour that he was using. I'm sure flour made it into the boxes during the pizza making process

Bottom line - It's known that one takes a chance of a possible grain of flour contaminating your food when dining anywhere as a celiac. But the fact that there is absolutely no conscious effort to safely prepare the food assures that each and every pie is most assuredly cross contaminated, no doubt. I have moved into Westfield VERY recently and absolutely love it!!! Friday night, our first night ordering in delivery, we tried Cosimo's. The only thing good I have to say is that I am glad to get this poor experience out of the way right off the bat. The food was so-so, especially for the price, and their on-line ordering is intentionally tricky. They provide a drop-down menu for your choice of vegetable or salad (dressing). Once you pick this however, you do not get pasta on the side of the meal, which in may past ALL meals (such as parmigiana style dishes) come with, even apparently theirs IF you dine-in. When I called to simply ask about this (I had sent an email requesting penne earlier when ordering but i had no response) I received SUCH A RUDE RESPONSE! I understand they know who I was by my phone number - but a little courtesy would be nice. I can only assume they are so used to complaints that he was automatically defensive. All I said was "Hello, I was wondering if the 'classic' dinner entre's come with a side of pasta", to which he replied, "YOU picked a salad dressing, It only comes with ONE side!". OH MY!!! Looking forward to trying a different spot, I have heard their are many great restaurants - so not to upsetting that this place...

I was referred here by a friend and she pretty much raved about everything but mainly the salad. So being that her and I share a love of good food her recommendations always leave me in want and ready to run but covid etc. Today I had an appointment about 15 minutes out from them and knew I'd be hungry lol so I planned on having this amazing salad for lunch. I asked my friend all the specifics on how and what to order and it was simple, Cesar Salad with Grilled Salmon. Ok cool! She advised I could get extra salmon as she had done a time or 2. I decided I would ask for extra dressing and croutons & garlic bread.... placed order, picked up. I was greeted by a tall guy with gorgeous eyes and killer smile..he was super accommodating and made sure I was super good before I left with all I needed. I got home and ate... CAN YOU SAY AMAZING & ONE OF IF NOT THE BEST CESAR SALAD I EVER HAD & the Salmon cooked to PERFECTION!! The Cesar Dressing....OFFICAL! & The croutons..seasoned and I think it's real bread......Oooooo Tasty little Treat it was!!! Thank You Cosimo's...
