I had a bad experience all the way around. After I walked in and waited for just a few seconds my server appeared from the kitchen with a yell of TO GO!? She seemed irritated. I enthusiastically replied with a smile that I would like to dine in. She asked me where I would like to sit and said I could sit anywhere I like so I closed the distance between us and picked a booth near where she was standing. She seemed softened and I made a joke a joke hoping to keep things light asking if this was "her Thai". It didn't go over well. I ordered a glass of water and began to read the menu. There were only two tables ahead of me with a couple at each one, so I got a little miffed when she took care of each one individually without stopping at my table as she passed by on the way back and forth to the kitchen about four times for them. Finally, 10 minutes later she found the time to half way holler at me as she exited the kitchen, "you want an appetizer or something?". I had to turn my head to see her coming. I ordered pot stickers and she immediately spun around and headed away. I called out "hold on a second" because I had a question and already knew what I wanted as an entree. She said "yeah, yeah, pot stickers, got it" and disappeared. She didn't get within 20 feet of me again until she showed up with my pot stickers. She asks if I'm ready to order and I ask if the fried wontons have yellow curry in them. She screws her face up, makes a sound that I wasn't sure if she was choking or growling at me, says no, like I'm an idiot and then proceeds to read the menu description of them. I passed since it didn't contain the curry, and ordered Yum Woonsen Salad and Chicken Pad Thai. The Yum Woonsen arrived unceremoniously with a thud and a "here" just as I finished the Pot Stickers and off she went immediately. I wanted the Pad Thai along with it but I didn't tell her when I ordered so I take the blame but I never had the opportunity to make up for that mistake because she never got within 20 feet of me again until 5 minutes after I finished the Yum Woonsen. Then I got my Pad Thai. In her defense she had a couple of people come in to pick up their takeout while I was there and she fielded 2-3 phone calls for takeout, but I heard her complaining to a co-worker about how slow and quiet it was so I don't see how she couldn't have done a better job of serving me. She never asked if my food was to my liking and never refilled my water even after I drained it. As for the food, the Pot Stickers we're chalky and crunchy. The Yum Woonsen was so sour it was like eating a bowl of lemons and limes. The Pad Thai was slimy and mushy, with very little flavor. The noodles were hot but the chicken was cold. Everyone and every business has bad days. Considering the reviews of this place I assume this was just a bad day for them but I won't be coming back to find out if they...
Read moreWe came here because Katy’s was too full. For some reason, their customer base is all white people, not Asian. Mai Thai had plenty of tables free. I felt a little bad since they closed in half an hour. I don’t understand why Asian restaurants close so early in Illinois compared to other States. We ordered chicken satay, Thai bbq chicken, green curry with beef, Thai custard.
-chicken satay 5 - the chicken was very tender and juicy. It tastes great with the peanut sauce. -Thai bbq chicken 5 - don’t sleep on this entree. The chicken was so flavorful and succulent, you don’t really need the Thai sweet and sour sauce. The sauce does give it a more tangy taste. -green curry with beef 5 - it is spicy but the enjoyable kind of spicy. Not the kind of spicy that is just hot and you don’t want to take another bite. It has a nice milky texture from the coconut milk. You may need to ask for more rice. -Thai custard - 4.5 - just the right amount of sweetness,...
Read moreIt saddens me to have to write this review because they some of the best spicy Thai basil around. However, after my last experience, I will never patronize this place again. I ordered two dishes, one was for my daughter with a peanut allergy, so I made sure to ask for no peanuts, actually told her three times. Get home and there are peanuts all over her dish. I call and politely tell them I just picked up an order and there's peants on it. All I wanted was an , "omg I'm so sorry". Wasn't even looking for a new dish. But instead the lady proceeds to tell me repeatedly that I never told her no peanuts...lol, I have to laugh... And then puts another lady on the phone, who I thought would be the sense in our conversation, who proceeds to repeat what this other lady is saying..."she said you didn't say that". I thanked them, said goodbye and hung up. No sense in talking to them. So much for...
