I was invited by friends to have dinner at this restaurant. It was truly a spectacular evening! First of all, the staff is outstanding. Every member is personable and gives amazing attention to the customers. We started with appetizers of buffalo mozzarella and an order of octopus. I had never had octopus before and heard that if it wasn't prepared correctly, that it could be tough. This was tender, juicy, and had such a mild flavor. It was grilled and lightly charred on the outside which is the proper way to prepare it. The mozzarella was served with fennel and a high quality olive oil. Fresh bread is also brought to the table to dip into olive oil. We ordered a pasta dish to share and I ordered the prawns. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. They have an excellent selection of wines that pair perfectly with the meal, no matter what you choose. Dinner completed with cannoli and espresso. The cannoli were crisp and a beautifully sweetened ricotta as a filling. All in all, it was a delightful experience and a perfect evening. Prices are reasonable and the portions are perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant for great food and an attentive and accommodating staff. COVID NOTE: There are plenty of tables outside, and they are spaced to stay within social distancing guidelines.
UPDATE 7/29/22: I returned this evening to enjoy this restaurant and it did NOT disappoint! Again we had the octopus as an appetizer and it was cooked to perfection and served with a salad of greens, olives and potatoes. I had a rack of lamb and shared a plate of fiochetti with a garlic, truffle and mushroom sauce. It was all perfection on a plate! I've included photos this time (I finally remembered to take them ). My friend had a plate of cavatelli in a tomato sauce. I took a small taste and the sauce was as good as my Italian grandmother's. It was a splended evening. As usual the food was outstanding and the service was beyond compare. The wait staff are so attentive and accommodating. I can't recommend this restaurant enough for great Sardinian/Italian cuisine! P.S.: I was reading some other reviewers complaining about the portion sizes. I have eaten at quite a few fine restaurants. The difference between them and cheaper franchise restaurants is the quality of the food...not the quantity. Sure anyone can fill a plate with pasta, but it is non-descript with little flavor. When enjoying fine dining, it is important to take time to savor every nuance of flavor on what you eat. After losing a considerable amount of weight over two years, I have come to appreciate good food and savoring every bite. I have also eaten at fine restaurants in Europe and the portion sizes are FAR from the overstuffed plates in many American...
Read moreWhen you walk into this place you’re greeted with humble yet intriguing decor that really leaves a lasting impression on the restaurant. They really try and give you a taste of Sardinia and I think they succeeded.
Although they may have succeeded, I’m not sure if I’m too fond of the “traditional” Sardinian cuisine. Firstly, I had the calamari platter. It was one of the best textured calamari I have ever eaten. Cooked in a way that perfectly balanced the rubberiness and tenderness to accomplish a delectable mouthfeel. However, I felt as if the batter was bland and the marinara sauce was from a can. The shrimp were tasteless. If you get this, ask for another type of sauce and put some salt on them.
For the main course I had the Cassulli di Carloforte which apparently is one of their signature dishes. This is probably my taste but this particular pasta felt like I was scarfing down maggots! Also, there was simply too much sauce and it was very runny. They could have added more clams as I felt it didn’t really enhance the dish as much as it could have.
The reason I don’t give this place 3 stars although I’ve had okay food is because my godmother who was eating with me had the Fiocchetti di Ricotta e Tartufo. She let me have some. I’ve tried lots of truffle based pastas and although runny sauces seems to be a common thread in many of the dishes here at Zona Blu. the balance achieved between all the ingredients was that of a harmonious orchestra. Lots of places mess up their truffle meals because either the truffle is too powerful or too nonexistent and the other flavors get taken over and washed away or don’t mix well at all with the lack of truffle flavor. Zona Blu was able to overcome all that with this dish and it was really beautiful.
I had the limoncello semifreddo ice cream in a cup thing for dessert and it was really good. They definitely use real limoncello. I just wish it was a tad less sweet as I taste some artificiality in the sorbet or whatever (I forgot).
Additionally, their wine selection is quite great and the bread they serve to start is superb.
Furthermore, their staff are friendly and wholesome and our waitress made us feel like family.
Overall, this restaurant deserves more popularity and I would recommend it to people who want the taste of an authentic Italian restaurant rather than something slightly authentic like casa...
Read moreThis is officially my favorite restaurant in Weston, and all Broward. We discovered this gem around a month ago and have had their food about 5 times now, 2 on-site. The quality is always great and consistent, every single time. We’ve ordered delivery and also visited the restaurant, and I always recommend going in person so you can experience their AMAZING staff!
Last night I went with a colleague for her birthday. We had to wait a few minutes at the bar before getting our table, even with a reservation, because the place was full. That was perfectly fine with me, since I got to try their drinks; the Venezuelan girl at the bar was so friendly and made one of the best margaritas I’ve had.
Once seated, our server was very professional and attentive. We ordered the Grilled Octopus, which is my favorite appetizer here and is always so perfectly cooked, and the eggplant caponata that I just can’t stop having. I ordered the Pollo Rotondo, which was also delicious and very well served. I wish I had taken more pictures, but the food is always so good that I just forget.
After dinner, Leonel came to our table to recommend their desserts. We said no because we were too full, but I told him I already knew how good they were since I’ve been there many times and was bringing my friend for her birthday. I joked that I’m basically an “ambassador” of the place. He asked about her birthday, and we said “please no,” because she’s shy about it, but he still came back with a small cake and said it was for her “no-birthday.” That kind of service is what truly makes a place special, and it’s exactly why Zona Blu is so loved. Leonel was extremely kind, and everyone around had that same energy in every interaction.
I’ve tried so many different dishes here, and each one is made with such care. I’ll be back many more times, and I’ll definitely keep being their secret ambassador with everyone around me. ❤️
PS: I’ll be uploading pictures from their plates on different visits, hopefully I just don’t...
