I'm vaguely shamefaced about writing this review. When I want a burger, I want 5 Guys. The soft, fresh bun compresses when I grab the burger and it sandwiches a juicy but not-too-meaty or -thick patty, American cheese, pickles, sauteed onions and sauteed mushrooms, and it becomes so much more than the sum of its parts. An ode to 5 Guys burgers, I guess! But there are another 15 or so toppings to choose from, and they'll also make it gluten-free with huge, crunchy iceberg lettuce leaves in place of the bun (which is quite good in its own right, even if someone isn't gf). Their fries are the best in the fast food business, no contest: fresh potatoes with their skin still on, fried to a golden brown and served in a paper bag that shows spots of oil from being thrown right in from the fryer. Add to that bottomless refills on salty peanuts in the shell, scooped out of bulk boxes; about twenty soft drink options, and really solid milkshakes if there's any room left, and we have a winner. I like the Westport site a little better than the Fairfield one, but they're pretty consistent. ...
Read moreYou may safely ignore the ridiculously negative reviews, all posted most likely by the same person, who clearly has some kind of a grudge against 5 Guys. I have eaten at various of their locations more times than I can count and have come to expect a consistently delicious meal at a very respectable price. They are not a fast-food restaurant although they look like one and do not expect to get your burger in less then 7 - 10 minutes, but do expect that it will be worth the wait as they cook each meal individually to order and only use the best ingredients. And the fries are amazing and yes, you get tons of them overflowing the cup and lining the bottom of the bag several inches deep. My family loves the place and we all eat there several times a month and have never had anything remotely approaching a bad experience, rather completely to the contrary. 5 stars...
Read moreEver since Shake Shack opened up I stopped going to FIVE GUYS. Shake Shack has taken a nose dive in cost, size, quality, taste and preparedness. A visit to Five Guys offers a whole lot more bang for the buck. Even though you cannot get a burger medium rare or rare at Five Guys, Shake Shack has not been able to be consistent let alone continuing to increase their prices often. Charred burgers, smaller and smaller is the reason I switched and now only spend my money at Five Guys. At Five Guys you never feel rushed. The employees here are effecient friendly, knowledgeable and above all display OUTSTANDING customer service. I give thanks to Rostam, Jack, Irving, Carhon, Jamel and Kurshida....
