My mom & I were just out of staters passing through originally I was trying to find a place that has fried whole belly clams but the time we had our traumatic experience in NY on 7-16-24, we just wanted to go to a diner and get back on the road to head home. We walked in and immediately greeted by their host with a smile, I don't remember his name but he was friendly and so welcoming, host with the most that even brought my mom a bowl of soup! It wasn't a loud place, calm and quiet, no music. Like you can hear the other person talk to you while sitting and eating your meal. Some diners have music blaring and/or tvs too loud, etc. I ordered the BBQ Ribs but I have a sensitivity to spices so the BBQ sauce had a bit of a kick to it which is not their fault at all. The BBQ ribs were just like the ones my mom makes at home so she actually ended up eating them while I had the creamy mashed potatoes and their chicken orzo soup which is very good and tasty! My mom even when she makes her own BBQ ribs at home, she can never eat a half rack let alone a full rack. And she ate the entire rack of ribs that I ordered, I was surprised to see that but just goes to show you that this restaurant did the impossible and got my mom to clean a plate with ribs on it. Our server, Jane was great and took the initiative! She was also friendly and helpful. Do you know how many times I go to a place and order ribs even at a chain restaurant and they never think to bring an additional plate or bag for the rib bones? Well done for going above and beyond. I would recommend this place. If we ever go back, we would definitely come back to eat here again. I now eat my mom's homemade chicken soup with orzo pasta in it, tastes amazing! They don't have seafood which is great advantage since my mom has crustaceans allergy and can't eat out...
Read moreAfter taking my friend to a doctor's appt. in Westport, my friend and I went in to eat at the Sherwood Diner because it was closer than the place we usually go to. The waitress seemed nice at first, but things went downhill from there. I ordered coffee - which doesn't come with a spoon, I had to ask for it. I then ordered the double blueberry pancakes with blueberry compote. When it arrived, the 3 pancakes were stacked one on top of the other and the compote was poured the top of the stack. The top pancake got soaked with compote but the other 2 pancakes underneath didn't get any and ended up being very dry. It should be noted that the pancakes tasted like they were cooked on the same griddle as seafood as I detected a slight fishy aftertaste. Also, the pancakes should've been staggered with one overlapping half of the other pancake so that when the blueberry compote is poured over the pancakes it would cover all 3 - not just one pancake when stacked. When I asked the waitress for some syrup to help choke down the remaining 2 dry pancakes, I was told that they DON'T come with syrup because they came with the compote. I should've just stopped eating there. Also, most waitresses ask if you want more coffee, not at this diner. All I got was one cup and that was it. The place was moderately busy but not overcrowded, so there was no need for being ignored. We weren't rude. We were polite and respectful. My friend's review was a bit more harsh, but a little respect goes a long way - regardless of whether you're a regular, or not. The final insult was the bill commanding an 18% tip as the LEAST you can do. That's insulting considering how we were treated. Never stopping here again. We will continue the longer commute to our usual diner on...
Read moreI ate here on September 24th, 2023 Here is my experience:
FOOD: Bugers - Dry and Burnt
Eggs Benedict - incredibly basic, zero flare. Eggs over-poached. Zero acidity in the hollandaise.
Pancakes- 2/3 were pretty decent. Tasted processed somehow despit claims of being made fresh daily.
Buffalo chicken sandwich- surprisingly decent compared to everything else
SERVICE: Zero Drink refills.
Got 1/4 orders wrong. Brought out chicken and waffles after clearly dering the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Our food was cold from waiting for the fix.
zero effort made to compensate for the wrong order/inconvenience.
ATMOSPHERE: Clean, ok vibe. Looks like a late 1980's diner, hotel carpet, cool marble floors. Verdict: The good rating this restaurant enjoys is almost certainly due to limited options, and this being the best of the poor available choices.
Would not visit again, and I would consider moving to a different town if I was a local and this was my go-to option for breakfast.
This place has also made me second guess a compulsory tip for waitstaff.
Do your job if you want a tip. If you refill drinks 0 times, never check in, and get orders wrong, I will no longer be tipping as a general...
