My wife and I ordered take out from here on a Friday evening for dinner being very excited to try a new “local” spot. Hot chicken and boba? Sounds great! Unfortunately, neither were very good.
The chicken sandwich was rather mediocre. Obviously if you want a “real” Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, you have to go to Tennessee. But even compared to other establishments in the area like Fry the Coop, the chicken was neither flavorful nor spicy, the cole slaw was bland, and the sauce was non-existent (seriously, they forgot to put sauce on it).
The Mac and cheese was on par with your favorite boxed Mac and cheese, whether it be Kraft or Velveeta.
Now the boba, this is where things really went south. I had ordered the strawberry milk tea boba, it tasted like watered down Nesquik strawberry milk, and on top of that, the boba was tough and likely undercooked. I’m all for a chewy boba, but my boba shouldn’t be as tough as jerky.
My wife had ordered the matcha strawberry milk tea boba, we both agreed this was the worst boba either of us had ever tasted. Take the image on my watered down strawberry milk tea boba, and add copious amounts of matcha powder and strawberry purée to it. We each had 1 sip, had a laugh about it, and proceeded to dump it down the drain.
We really wanted to like this place, but it missed the mark in so many ways. It’s def a place you won’t be sorry...
Read moreI was very pleased with my visit to Hangry Joe's. The chicken here was very fresh and quite tasty. I ordered the Chicken Sando and was very impressed with the quality. A very large, Nashville-style seasoned, lightly breaded chicken filet on Brioche with pickle, slaw, and Hangry Joe sauce served with seasoned waffle fries. The waffle fries were acceptable. I much rather prefer the unseasoned Chick-fil-A waffle fries in comparison to these. If you know, you know. The sandwich without spice still carries a very manageable seasoning with some kick. There are 6 different heat levels here, so refer to the heat scale posted. I'm not sure if the hottest actually requires you to sign a waiver or not, but the sign says it does. My son had the kids meal soy garlic chicken nuggets, and even though he doesn't normally eat chicken, he ate almost all of them. I believe that the Soy Garlic sauce should be more prominently featured here. This was a fantastic sauce/dip. The restaurant itself was very standard and open. A pair of quiosks were on the right to order if you didn't want to go to the counter. Since we used the quiosks, our interaction with employees was minimal. He called our order and thanked us. I certainly intend to come back. This...
Read moreCalled and nicely asked if they carry certified Zabiha halal chicken; the person on the call (who claimed to be the owner) said they have Zabiha halal chicken but when asked where they get their certification from he said they don’t have a certification nor they would disclose where they get their meat from. During the duration of the call he was extremely rude and ended the call saying “I’m muslim too you can either take my word for it being Zabiha and eat here or don’t” and hung up without letting me respond. I was genuinely so excited to come try this place out and just wanted to do my due diligence to make sure that Im eating what’s permissible for me and many others who eat Zabiha. Even on their website it states that they carry certified halal chicken, all I wanted to do was ask about the certificate. First impression by this owner was horrible, customer service skills are horrible, just by the attitude of this person I am so turned off from giving this establishment my business. So, if you’re are planning to go here thinking it’s Zabiha, maybe think twice; there’s no reason to be shady if it actually was Zabiha Halal....
