La Monarca Bakery & Cafe — Restaurant in Whittier

I completely forgot to review this place when I went a few months ago. I had just had my bundle of joy and was DYING to get out and have myself a cup of coffee and some sweets with some friends. I finally did just that here with my best friend and real good friend. Both are well aware of this place, but I was skeptical. I had been to one in Hollywood and was not impressed. This place, however.... wonderful service, delicious food (yes, I had more than sweets, for I could not help mah-self.) and clean bathroom. This was a must for me, since I had a newborn and you have to be super spotless and germ-free about everything. The one thing I didn't quite like about this place is I had nowhere to change my newborn. I had the pad ready and blankets to cover, but no changing table. I changed him with difficulty in his stroller/car seat. I guess this is more of a suggestion so I don't consider it in my review. Anywho, I definitely recommend this to EVERYONE. Poor customer service. Impossible to have items delivered from the website for a specific date/time and it doesn’t alert you that deliveries must be done from different web address until after you fill cart and check out. Called the store and the representative said she’s not familiar with the online orders and can’t help me. I asked how I can make an order for delivery, she said she didn’t know and suggested maybe I should try door dash.

• updating my review from one star to two. I was finally able to figure out how to get my order delivered to a friend. I received such positive feedback from the recipient, that I ordered another one today as a gift for someone else. I suggest they better educate their employees on the services provided and hire more customer service oriented people for the job. The quality of service does not compare to the presentation or taste of their baked goods!

So we both started this road trip fasting, so you know we were both pretty dang hangry by the time we got here. Yeah I'm sure if wasn't a bright idea for the both of US to set up blood work on the same day and right before taking off to Oakland but we finally got it done lol. First thing first, we ordered some pieces of cakes to go! Priorities people!! Oh but wait they let you sample them. We tried a couple of them before we finally decided on three of them the tiramisu, tres leche, and the strawberry cheesecake. The best one I would definitely have to say was the strawberry cheesecake, it didn't taste too much like cheesecake but it did have plenty of strawberries which made it good. We ordered some food and stayed there to eat. My sister got a salsa verde beef torts and I got the chipotle beef machaca torta. The shredded beef was actually pretty good, I liked the chipotle the best it had a little kick to it. We would come back to try out different things...
