If one were to conjure the image of a "dive bar," this would not be the first place to come to mind. But for me, this place is as close to a dive bar that a quality bar can be. The bartenders are friendly and efficient and can help if you're struggling with beer selections. The taps rotate fairly often, so there is almost always a newly tapped craft beer available, along with a solid lineup of other local favorites. There are the standard domestic brews available in cans or bottles, and there is always something available on nitro. The food hits nicely for bar fare, with their vegan menudo being a favorite. It's a pretty good spot for watching sports events, but it's definitely not a "sports bar," so you may miss out on some of that ambiance if you're a die hard. I've watched some World Cup matches as well as MLB playoff games here, and had a great time. I was lucky enough to grab 2 bar seats to catch the 2nd half of the 2019 Super Bowl, which was also a good experience. There is also a rather large area for restaurant style seating as well, which stays consistently busy if that's the style of outing you prefer.

The 6749 (or as locals call it the 40) is one of the older more established beer bars (they also serve food) in Uptown Whittier. The scene here can be anywhere from college kids to older patrons enjoying a nice selection of taps and bottled beers. The atmosphere is very chill and inviting. The music is well varied, they have several TVs for your viewing pleasure. Not overly priced. At times it can get pretty packed and loud here so just be prepared, then other times it can be really mellow. If your in the area and find yourself needing a brew to quench that hop thirst definitely stop by!

My hubs comes here after work for a beer + bite during the weekday. It's a low key, local peeps, local vibe dive and he always leaves happy 🍻 The service is attentive and prompt w no attitude. It's family owned so maybe that's why. Good, honest, hard working customers just grabbing a brew after work and families grabbing a bite at night 💯 I was a lil fancy on a recent Sat night + also fit in. They welcome all vibes 💃

So where to start... Besides having a very nice selection of craft beer, rotating art on the walls, good music always playing, A friendly environment, and inviting employees, one of the owners, Mike, has added very tasty vegan options to their menu. My favorite is the 6740 burger with the vegan chicken style patty substituted, it's the best I've had to date. They also have traditional style corn tortilla tacos with the option to substitute carne with "spisoy" which is a very flavorful soy "meat" that may fool or at least win over the most staunch meat eaters. Their vegan menudo is also a special and rare find anywhere, and they have PERFECTED it (only available on weekends). Another hard to come by item is a vegan michelada, which they also serve. This bar should be more known for its food in my opinion! Eat there, it's impossible to be...

The food took slightly over an hour to come out. We had two tables and one table was almost done eating before the other even got their food. The water was more or less room temperature and also took a while to be refilled which was a little annoying as my teammates and I were quite thirsty after our water polo game. Apart from those issues the service was pretty good and one of the servers was nice and talked to us about our college. The food was alright though certainly on the pricier side. Not the best post game meal experience and I'm not sure I would want to come back. It might be better if you're there for more of a drinks and light food...
