Restaurant Review: Rokka - A Culinary Delight in Uptown Whittier
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Rokka, a gem located in uptown Whittier. From start to finish, my experience at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of delectable food, amazing drinks, and attentive service truly made it a memorable dining affair.
Let's start with the food. Rokka's menu boasts a wide array of options that cater to various palates, and I must say, the quality and taste were outstanding. The coconut shrimp appetizer was a perfect way to begin the meal. The shrimp were crispy, succulent, and had a delightful hint of coconut flavor. It was a fantastic introduction to what was to come.
Moving on to the main course, I decided to indulge in the bone-in rib-eye, and it was a carnivore's dream come true. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy, and packed with flavor. Each bite was a melt-in-your-mouth experience, leaving me craving more. The sides accompanying the dish were equally delightful, complementing the star of the show beautifully.
One cannot overlook the amazing drinks served at Rokka. The bar staff are true artisans when it comes to crafting delicious concoctions. I sampled a few cocktails during my visit, and each one was a masterpiece. The flavors were well-balanced, the presentation was visually appealing, and the attention to detail was commendable. Whether you prefer classic cocktails or unique creations, Rokka's drink menu has something to satisfy every taste.
Service at Rokka was another highlight of my dining experience. The staff members were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. They were quick to address any queries I had, and their recommendations were spot on. The waiting staff ensured that my needs were met promptly and made sure that I felt welcome throughout my visit. The level of service added an extra touch of sophistication to the already exceptional dining experience.
The ambiance of Rokka is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for any occasion. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a contemporary flair, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and comfortable. The dim lighting and soft music further enhance the overall dining experience, making it a place where one can unwind and enjoy a fantastic meal.
In conclusion, Rokka in uptown Whittier exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The food was truly a delight, from the mouthwatering coconut shrimp to the heavenly bone-in rib-eye. The drinks were a work of art, and the service was attentive and friendly. I highly recommend Rokka to anyone looking for a memorable culinary experience...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLively atmosphere within an upscale dining room. But with 4 out of 5 dishes being a miss, I sadly cannot recommend Rokka.
Started with the pork belly appetizer. Compared to pork belly two of our party has in Japan, this was lacking in flavor. It was also quite dry. The dipping sauce nearly saved it.
Steak entrees: cooked medium, and both were dry. The butter dip served alongside provided no flavor. The sides were also a miss: corn on the cob a little withered and over-salted. Wasabi mashed potatoes had no wasabi. The house salad was the best part of the steak orders.
Clam chowder: very little happening here in terms of flavor and texture. Very few chunks of potato, or any other veggies, and seldom any clams. I donāt know if they dip from a large pot and whatever the ladle grabs is what you get, but this serving had very little to offer.
Filet mignon sandwich was delicious. The chimichurri does a lot of work. Accompanying sweet potato fries were a bit soggy and could hold up to their own weight.
Atmosphere: lovely live guitar, though it was quite loud. Hard to have conversation, even with wall separating us from the musician. Pleasant decor and very comfortable seating, even at tables. Strange to have so many tvs playing a short loop of the restaurantās offerings. Feels sort of fast food and is distracting. Unless thereās a game, it would be a better look if they were off.
Service was attentive...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRokka is an upscale whiskey restaurant and bar. Its located in uptown Whittier where it used to be some mexican upscale seafood restaurant. They have barrel aged whiskey and some really high end stuff. We had dinner. The food was pretty good. The waitress said the kitchen was backed up, but our food came out at a decent time. We started with creamy tomato bisque. It came out lukewarm, but had good flavor and they add corn, which gives it a pleasant crunch. Sad, that it doesnt come with any bread to dip. We also had the beef short ribs sliders to start. The short rib had good flavor. Very tender and juicy. For our meal I tried the bone in ribeye with a side of mac n cheese and fried yucca. My wife had the halibut with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The ribeye was cooked well, medium rare. It had good flavor, nice char crust. It came with a side of mushroom sauce. It might have been better hot, mine came lukewarm. The mac n cheese was pretty good. Nice al'dente noodles and good sauce. The yucca frys are good, they come with a spicey sweet dipping sauce. Not sure it works that well with it, but its different. The halibut was good, it came with a creamy lemon sauce. Flaky and tender, not to dry. Service was friendly and efficient. I recommend you get a reservation, because they fill up. The bar area is walk in, first come. It's a good date location...
