I like Spangles, okay? I really like Spangles, in terms of food. I am new to Wichita and have only eaten at Spangles three times, so this review goes for all 3.
The burgers and fries are great, a little pricey, but a medium combo does basically give you a whole 2 liter to drink and more fries than one reasonably needs, but I think the fries are fire and I indulge the full amount. Plus they have buffalo sauce on tap the way BK and McD's have ketchup, and I am a buffalo sauce fan.
But look. One morning, I had to pee really bad, and I was told I had to both purchase something and leave my backpack outside unattended to avoid peeing my pants or risking some kind of legal trouble for peeing behind a bush. So I purchased a small fry, abandoned my backpack momentarily, and used the restroom and washed my hands as quickly as possible. Upon returning for my fries, not a word was spoken to me, not wishing a customer to "have a good day" or even just "here's your fries." Now, in all fairness, the lady who informed me of their policies wasn't exactly rude in the way she told me, and the exact location I went to is in an area known for crime and widely inhabited by homeless people -- I would like to put emphasis on PEOPLE. Why are we as a culture going to permit or support a fast food restaurant going to these lengths to further dehumanize and degrade a population whose self-worth is already in the gutter? We reinforce this learned helplessness, the kind that keeps people in the cycle of perpetual shame in their homelessness, in depriving them of basic human decencies like not making them "do their business outside" like you would a dog. Are some of them looking for a bathroom to get high in? I'm sure of it, but that shouldn't be the expectation or the rule. The other time I went inside to eat, I would not call the service friendly, but again the food was awesome.
I am blessed to not count myself amongst the homeless at this exact moment, but one bad day, a bad decision or two, and I'd be right there -- and so would anyone reading this. And the climbing back out of that position requires a will and faith and hope impossible for a human to have unaided, or independent of an intercessor, whether it be God or someone who knows the true value of loving thy neighbor willing to take a chance.
Be kind to people. Give them a chance. If a person comes in looking like they've had a bad night, or in my specific case carries a Bible around in a backpack whenever I go out, let them use the bathroom, make sure there's hand soap and toilet paper for them, and if they hijack the bathroom and won't come out or something, deal with it when it happens. Let's not make animals out of our brothers and sisters. I'm not advocating for passing your hard earned paycheck out, I am asking that we treat everyone like the mirror of ourselves that they are, and don't impede them further in their attempt to reclaim a semblance of human dignity, even if you're opposed to or not in a position to personally help them. I'll get off my soap box...
Read moreI always loved how unique the location was. It's always clean and the food is reasonably fast and that's not to say they could be faster. The quality of the food you get at the end of your (never long) wait more than makes up for it.
I won't name names but when I go to places who place too big of an emphasis on FAST, I usually eat something that tastes like it was prepared fast. I've never had that experience here.
Although I miss the cars in the dining area I'm sure they are only gone do to some regulation banning an internal combustion vehicle from dining areas.
I've been frequenting this location ever since I was a small child and I've always been more excited to eat here than even places with attractions for small children. I think this is due to the drink station that can service your food selections with ketchup, barbecue sauce, Buffalo sauce, and disposable cutlery that has transformed the way I eat fries. Drowning in toppings and with a fork so as not to seem like a savage :)
This particular location has sorta cast shade on even the other Spangles locations for almost unfair reasons. Most of all its always been there, it's always been open, it's always clean, qit's always rode the wave keeping its menu from getting stale, and the people who work there have NEVER been rude or unprofessional. 5/5 and that's not just and quick "rate-and-post".
Best Spangles...
Read moreupdate I had a hankering for spangles breakfast, but it was outside the breakfast hours, however they still have a limited breakfast menu which is nice. I ordered an ultimate bagel, french toast sticks, a kids meal and a cheeseburger, the total was $39! The only meal was the kids meal! I can't imagine if I ordered 4 meals, it would've been $50 or more for a fast food lunch! The workers are still very friendly but the lady at the speaker kept telling me to pull forward after each item I ordered an item. Hold your horses ma'am. The lovely older woman that is ALWAYS at the window gave my "child" a few milk bones. The food was decent. The kids meal came with an ice cream covered in Oreo crumbles which was nice. But for $40 every item should have LOL! I do like their gyros
01-10-2022 The last 2 times I tried to order chicken strips for my kiddo, he couldn't eat them, the outside was hard and the chicken was like rubber. The total for me and my 2 kids to eat was $38! For food that had to be thrown away. The workers are always friendly and they get the order right, which is why I gave 2 stars. The fact you can get a screwdriver from the drive-thru is crazy (to me) We have enough problems with people drinking and driving in this town, now we have drive thru ready made vodka...
