Panda Express — Restaurant in Williamsburg

I'm honestly a bit confused by the people claiming "Williamsburg needed this". The food is both worse and more expensive than getting the equivalents at any of the take out Chinese places we have in town. Their fried rice in particular is terrible and has a mealy texture that makes for both an unpleasant taste and mouth feel.

But worse than that is the service. It seems clear that they could not hire enough people to run the restaurant properly. They are chronically understaffed, trying to run with a skeleton crew, and I'm sure they're doing their best. But when you are NEVER able to complete online orders on time and are falsely marking the food as completed and ready for pickup, that is a problem. The first time I went, my order marked as completed, and I arrived shortly after, only to find that it had not even been started. It then took over 40 minutes for my order to get out to me, which is entirely unacceptable. The second visit was not much better. Arrived 10 minutes after the ready by time, to find the employees had no idea where the order was, only for the manager to discover the order still sitting in the printer and never made. They quickly threw it together and apologized, but it was a reinforcement upon the bad first impression.

This place was great. The thing I love about chain restaurants is that they are a known quantity. If I want good ole' orange chicken and some cheese rangoons, I can generally assume Panda Express is going to get it right. I was pleased to find this one is no exception, it was fantastic. I also want to mention that the lady running the drive through, I believe her name was Little, was very pleasant and efficient despite the place being absolutely slammed. It would have been easy to not have been so pleasant with how backed up they were.

I don't do a lot of reviews, but I felt I had to counter that one star review. I will note that I checked that person's review history, and it seems she runs into a lot of issues, as most of her reviews are negative. My dad always told me, if you meet a jerk every now and again, you may have met a few jerks, if you meet a jerk everywhere you go, well you're the jerk. He didn't say jerk, but I'm keeping this family friendly. I am not sure if this applies to that person, but it just seems unlikely to have such awful experiences at so many different places. Of course, it could be that everything was terrible and perhaps the rest of our palates aren't as discerning as hers,...

I have never left a bad review before, as I work in the restaurant industry myself and didn’t think I would for a fast food restaurant, but i placed an order for pickup on the app and I went to one of the 2 drive throughs and sat for 15+ minutes at the speaker waiting to be helped while the line of cars at the speaker next to me got helped. I watched as give or take 6 or 7 cars placed there order and went on. In my first couple minutes sitting there they came onto my speaker and said they would be with me in a minute. The car in front of me didn’t seem to have any issues. I went inside to get my order and I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe something wasn’t working or a system was down, but I could see very clearly from the front the 2 cameras they have at each speaker that you would be able to see me sitting at.
