I recently had the pleasure of dining at Jojo Japanese Restaurant, and I can confidently say it’s a standout spot for anyone craving authentic Japanese cuisine in a welcoming, laid-back setting. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff, setting the tone for a delightful experience. The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Japanese dishes, with a focus on sushi, sashimi, and teriyaki. I started with the miso soup, which was rich and flavorful, and the edamame, perfectly salted and fresh. For the main course, I went with the chef’s special sushi platter, which was beautifully presented with a mix of delicate nigiri and vibrant sashimi. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were clean and balanced. The rolls were expertly made with high-quality ingredients—each bite was a reminder of the care and craftsmanship that went into the dish. Jojo's ambiance strikes the right balance between casual and elegant. The interior is cozy with modern touches, and while it’s not overly flashy, it creates a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere perfect for a night out or a quiet meal. Service was attentive without being intrusive, with the staff offering recommendations and ensuring everything was to my liking. What truly sets Jojo apart is the attention to detail, from the perfectly cooked rice in the sushi to the unique sauces accompanying the dishes. You can tell the chefs are passionate about their craft, and it’s evident in every dish they serve. Overall, Jojo Japanese Restaurant delivers both in terms of quality and atmosphere. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or someone new to Japanese cuisine, Jojo offers a memorable dining experience that will likely have you returning for more. Highly recommended! We came here on a Wednesday night for dinner. Upon being seated, we looked over the menu, noticing inconsistent abbreviations and spellings for several items including the words "avocado" , "cucmber" or "minutes". On its own, there is nothing wrong with that, but it does show a lack of care I hoped would not be present in their food. The waiter took our order before we were offered drinks, and once we did place the order, every single thing came out at a different time. This is especially strange because we both got fried rice, and there was a 10 minute delay between them. Additionally, their vegetable sushi rolls are similar if not the same price as sushi rolls with seafood inside, which is a trend I am not used to at sushi restaurants. The salmon avacado roll was extremely delicious as well as freash making it the highlight of the meal. The fried rice itself was very dry on the top, with some of the rice actually being crunchy. The steak in the fried rice was flavorless, dry, and of low quality. The chicken in mine, was also quite dry and a bit overcooked. Given the prices of the menu, we were shocked by the subpar standards. In their defense, we sat at a regular table, not hibachi, so we cannot speak to that experience, but I can say with certainty that we won't return here. Overall, the food is not worth the price, and the dining experience in general experience is lacking. I cannot recommend this restaurant.

We just moved to the area and was initially excited to try this restaurant. As foodies, we dine out regularly. A key indicator of having full availability on a Friday night should have alerted me to this not being a great restaurant. Service from the moment we walked through the door made us question staying. It was a disaster moving forward with one entrƩe being worse than the next. I drew the line after ordering the JoJo love boat. All of the sushi was discolored and didn't smell fresh. Took a few bites, spit it out and politely asked for the check. From the holes in the bench seat to the taped in menus, this was a clear indicator this restaurant is struggling and didn't ask for a refund. I hope we don't get sick... 11/01/2024 Edit: I assure you, this restaurant is no jewel. From previous reviews, my complaint seems to be a common theme amongst patrons.

Here is a story. I was actually enjoying this place. However several events unfolded and ruined my night. We sat down, ordered drinks a roll to split as appetizer and 2 hibachi dinners. 1st, the waitress confused my wife's drink with someone else's. No big deal, quickly corrected. Chef came out and started cooking and did everything out of order. Not a big deal, the food was actually pretty good. More than half way thru hibachi I started wondering where my sushi was and asked about it. The waiter looked confused, went back and forth to the kitchen few times and came back to tell me that "they are working on it". (They forgot). It took another 10 minutes for it to come out. Ok, no big deal, we had a few pieces of it, and bagged everything else home. The waitress has not come by thruout all of dinner to check on refills, no big deal, I was planning on having only one beer anyway. Because they forgot the sushi, I was expecting something, maybe a free desert, or completely take it off the bill, since I expressed my dissatisfaction when they first brought out the sushi. But nothing. When the waiter came back to collect the payment I asked for them to take off the sushi. He stood around for a second, shook his head and left. He came back and told us that we cannot bag the sushi since he took it off the bill. That's when my blood boiled and I started raising hell. There is a mandatory 18% tip already included in the bill, so I told them that now I am extremely dissatisfied and I'm not paying the tip, and to take it off. Because they ran my card already, they couldn't, or didn't know how. So they gave me a $20 gift certificate. I understand that they were busy, running crazy, and we are all human, and I was even ready to pay extra tip. And actually enjoyed the food and experience. All I wanted was a free desert because they forgot the sushi. Even people next to me were puzzled that we were asked to leave the sushi. LOL. Who's right? You don't know how to address dissatisfied customer. And sometimes have to take a small loss to keep them happy. You want great experience, go to Aodake. (They are closed on Mondays, that's why we went here). Sorry, I won't be back here. Bunch of...

We had visited once long ago when they first opened and it was okay, a little pricey but not too bad at that time. However, I don't know what these guys are thinking nowadays, but their prices are absolutely off the wall insane ! It was no wonder there was only one other table seated.

We sat down, reviewed the menu for a bit, and kindly got up and left.

Sushi rolls are upwards of $22. and from what we remembered, they weren't that great when we visited before...

Also, the place smelled like lots of cleaning solution, and the tables and seats were pretty beat up. The floor was also sticky. Not very appealing.

We ended up looking for another place to go since we were really craving Sushi and it was a Monday, (meaning many Sushi places are closed,) but we ended up finding this REALLY cool place called All Blue Sushi in Bolingbrook.

Unfortunately, we will never be back.

Update to your reply:

Hi there, I read a few of the other reviews and your responses, and it is apparent to me that you do not know how to take constructive criticism. Unfortunately your menu is terribly expensive and overpriced... I fully understand prices have gone up everywhere, but my family member works at another local sushi restaurant, and they are still very affordable even after doing major upgrades to their facility.

I am allowed to give honest feedback -- and please know I am not being rude.

We were extremely polite to our Server, why else shouldn't we be ? but unfortunately, we just didn't feel like the menu suited our desires and remembering our last experience, didn't feel that it was worth it.

I'm sorry my review didn't make you happy, but you may want to reconsider your menu pricing or offer some specials that bring in more customers...

I think the one thing it seems you really have going for you is basically being the only hibachi nearby since Tai San is no longer offering it.

Also, it's okay to receive negative feedback, but it's how you respond to it that shows your level of professionalism.

PS - I'm pretty romantic 🄰😘 (That was cute)

Okay, I wish you...

This will be a long review so please brace yourself. My husband and I decided last minute to have a family dinner here with our 4 children. Upon arrival we were seated right away. We sat for about 10 minutes when the waitress from the back came to take our order. Hubby and I ordered a chicken, shrimp, and steak dinner to share , my oldest daughter ordered salmon sushi and I ordered a chicken and rice dinner for my 3 little children to share. After the rice was cooked he took the very small portion of rice and divided it between us all and when I asked why the rice was such small portions, the guy who sat us down came from the back of the restaurant and tells me that it’s ONE serving per dinner. The serving were given was literally ONE serving size not TWO. The servings were not even the size of my hand, it looked like two table spoons of rice on my children’s plate. He then gets upset and tells me that if I want more then I’ll have to order a side of rice. Instead of the extra rice, I ordered noodles for my children instead. Once we received the bill they charged us Hibachi style chicken with shrimp when it was supposed to be a noodle dinner since we did no longer wanted the rice for our children, a side of noodles and the dinner my husband and I shared. The bill was totally incorrect! They was supposed to charge us for ONE hibachi Noodle dinner, ONE Hibachi steak, chicken and shrimp dinner, side of rice, Sushi and soft 5 soft drinks and a beer. Not to mention, they tipped themselves $23.00. I understand how gratitude works but I have never seen a restaurant do that before. I did not mind this time because the gentlemen that cooked our food was TOP TIER! šŸ™ŒšŸ½ the waitress who took our drinks and order was rude and do not take down the order correctly. This was our last time ever coming to this place. My husband and I order food from here all the time. Sadly this will be...
