It is a "dive bar" which means if you are a gentlemen that it is undesirable. It does not mean you are raising the community's standard of living by praising it. It means those who praise such establishments are too young to know any better and/or they are full blown alcoholics with a distorted view of what is wonderful outside its portal. The beer I had was cold. Heineken made it. Praise Heineken. The patrons were numbed by their "cheap drinks". Don't buy the b.s. that this was a pirate cove. It is on a river. There is no cove here for them to hide. The management of Barbary Coast want to have your tourist dollars. There are better places along the boardwalk and throughout Wilmington. Don't give up your freedom of choice. Now you are curious and you will visit here...
Read moreI always go to barbary coast when i go downtown wilmington, but after the way we were treated last night after spending a good amount of money on drinks and tips will never go again. Totally unsure why the lady bartender thought it was ok to man handle my tiny cousin and toss her out of the bar with not one explanation of what happened. No cutting her off or asking her to leave....nothing. we would completely understand if due to being intoxicated in a bar and asked nicely to leave or not serve anymore drinks, but nothing was said at all. Just grabbed her and tossed her out. No professionalism nor explanation. I so wish i had all the tip money we left that horrible person back. Lesson learned. Will never enter that place again nor will my family...

Whoever was working behind the bar was helpful, but I was approached by another employee that was incredibly drunk and belligerent who immediately cursed me out. I’m not sure if this was the owner, or member of management, or just a regular employee, but he had an incredibly threatening demeanor that was not conducive to a welcoming bar environment.
