I was very excited to find this place when googling places to eat in Wilmington. Though there are many restaurants here, I was getting tired of what felt like the "same old same old" places and wanted to try something new. My partner and I had a small anniversary coming up so we set a reservation and were looking forward to it given the menu and decor looking very promising online. Unfortunately Prost did not live up to the expectations we had going in. The Pros of this restaurant are firstly, the aesthetic. It's very pretty on the inside with a unique flair to it that we enjoyed. The second being the alcoholic drink we tried. It was a special called "Sweet Talk" which was a Peach and Gin mix - it was delicious. We tried quite a few items from the menu. Potato Pancakes, Spaetzle Mac and Cheese, Chicken Schnitzel, Pretzels, and Apple Strudel. For me the best food item was the dessert, while my partner liked the pretzels and potato pancakes the most. The Mac and Cheese and Chicken Schnitzel were fine, just nothing to write home about. We also did order a cup of Mushroom Soup - but it never arrived - which begins the Cons of our experience at Prost.
The service here was honestly terrible. I hate to say it, as I like to support local business, but there was really no excuse for this. Our reservation was for 8:30pm, we arrived a few mins early and waited for the hostess and who I assume to be the manager to acknowledge us standing there, which took a moment as they were talking. No big deal, we could wait. When they did seat us, they put us at a high table across from the bar which seats 6 people. I thought this was odd, as there were only 2 of us. But again, whatever. We were just excited to eat here. The waiter comes by within a couple mins and we order a drink. And then we wait. We wait for about 20minutes for him to return, even to bring us our drink back. And then hes gone again. Didn't ask us for our order, nothing but handing us the drink and going. Its at this point we have realized that our waiter isn't a waiter at all - but the bartender. So the bartender is serving us, despite there being an actual waiter walking around who does not acknowledge us a single time. In fact no one - not the hostess, manager, or waiter acknowledges or even looks at us once we've been seated, despite all passing us many times. Only the bartender (when he isn't serving customers at the bar) and the gentleman who was doing the food running (who to his credit, was very nice). We end up waiting another 25-30mins for our waiter/bartender to return to take our order. In this time, two other parties have been seated and attended to by the waiter on staff. My partner and I literally watched as one party was immediately attended to around the 45min mark and both went "wow, really?". I was having a difficult time not being irritated at this situation by this point. It certainly wasn't the bartender's fault - he had to stay by the bar if it was busy. But I don't understand why this was the situation at all. I had done the proper thing in making a reservation to a place that I had heard gets rather busy - but I couldn't even get a waiter to serve us? I would be more understanding had the place actually been that busy - but it was not. Yes, the bar was busy. But there were only about 4 tables that were being served for food service, so why did our service rely on the mercy of whether or not the bar was busy? it felt ridiculous and at that point I had just wanted to leave. But finally we had put our order in after almost an hr, and the food came out relatively quickly after that. Except the soup - which was on my bill, despite not receiving it. Luckily it was removed when we brought this up - but there was no apology, just "oh, right, I'll fix that for you." It's pretty depressing that we had been so looking forward to coming here, excitedly looking at pictures days before coming only to leave thoroughly disappointed by the service we had received. I don't understand why we were treated that way, but we won't be...

Wow, thank you so much for your emotionally-charged TED Talk in response to my honest review. Truly, I had no idea my opinion would cause such deep soul-searching and spiritual turmoil behind the scenes at Prost Biergarten. Sitting on my review for weeks? That’s dedication. I almost feel honored.
Let me clarify something since your response was more about your feelings than, you know, the actual issues I raised. I didn’t walk out upset about a dropped fork or a forgotten napkin—I walked out because the food was bad and your team (minus Eugene, who deserves a damn medal) didn’t seem to care. But instead of even trying to address that, you hit me with a monologue about how hurt you were and how I should’ve helped you do your job. Sorry I didn’t roll up my sleeves and head into the kitchen to season the potato pancakes myself.
You talk about “slinging mud from the comfort of my home” like I was plotting revenge in a war room. No—I had a disappointing meal and I wrote a review. That’s how this works. If your ego can’t handle feedback unless it’s gift-wrapped in compliments, maybe don’t be in a restaurant business.
Anyway, glad you received the message. Let’s just agree—next time I’ll eat somewhere that puts more effort into their food than their clapback. Deal?
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Let’s get straight to the point—Eugene, my server, was the only redeeming part of this entire experience. Friendly, attentive, and clearly doing his best to keep the ship afloat while the kitchen was busy throwing flavor out the back door. He deserves a raise—and probably a better restaurant.
Now, the food… The charred onion dip was downright awful. It tasted like someone took the ashes from a burnt grill and stirred them into sour cream. And to make it worse, they served it with plain, unseasoned potato chips—like they grabbed the first sad snack bag they found. Who thought that pairing was a good idea?
The potato pancakes were a mess. Soggy, lifeless, and inexplicably filled with eggplant, because apparently someone in the kitchen got bored and decided to experiment. There was no crisp, no seasoning—just flavorless mush pretending to be comfort food.
The kielbasa? Surprisingly good. Great flavor, well-cooked. But that’s where the praise ends, because they slapped it in a soggy, limp bun that couldn’t hold its shape for five seconds. By the time it reached the table, the presentation was ruined and so was the experience.
And the fries? An oily disaster. They looked decent at first, but one bite in and they were limp, greasy, and heavy. Like someone deep-fried them in regret.
Why didn’t I ask for a manager? Because by the time the food hit the table, I wasn’t hungry—I was fascinated. I needed to see just how far this could go. Plus, I didn’t feel like hearing “that’s how we do things here” while staring at my third soggy fry.
Final verdict: Eugene’s the MVP, but the food and execution at Prost Biergarten are way off the mark. If this place spent half as much time on flavor and consistency as it does on trying to look cool, they might have something. Until...

Just recently tried this restaurant and thought it would be a good idea since the reviews were great. Boy was I wrong, the atmosphere seems as if it would be on the fancier side, but everybody in there was wearing T-shirts and sweats. The workers weren’t very friendly at all. Just not a very inviting environment. My friend and I came towards the middle of the day, wasn’t busy at all. Plenty of empty tables. But the waiter was telling us, If you didn’t have a reservation we can only put you at a table for an hour and 30 minutes. Very strange because I’ve never been to a restaurant that tells you that. again, so I was very leery about staying at this place and trying it out.. we get seated at the table, given the menus, after asking us, if we want drinks, and then immediately said, if we were ready to order., We placed the order and not even 15 minutes later we already got our food. I ordered the chicken cordon blue sandwich, and I could definitely say on the outside it was fried to perfection but the inside was slightly pink. Definitely not something I want to see in chicken. Everything felt completely rushed in general during our duration in the restaurant. We just felt very rushed, even rushed us when we wanted to get dessert. We ordered the black forest ice cream. In the pictures it shows you would actually get a piece of cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. But in actuality you’re getting two scoops of vanilla ice cream with crumbs of a black forest cake/the sauces that would be included for it. For the amount of money you get charged for it it’s pretty misleading. we even asked the lady do they have individual black forest cake slices, she said yes and of course, minutes later she comes back and says no. But I really think it was mainly because they wanted us to leave so they could fill the table. It was just really rude and disrespectful. I would honestly recommend people never coming to this location. The food was not impressive, the price was OK, not a very friendly environment, and I certainly didn’t like the way we were rushed during our meal. We weren’t even there that long, but I just felt like they kept coming to the table and removing plates, even though we were still eating. I don’t know, it was very rude. Save your money go to a different German restaurant this one isn’t it. There’s plenty of amazing restaurants in the area. This one just didn’t make the cut in my...
