Thursday night reservation at 7:30. The restaurant was DEAD. Only one other two top filled. We sat and there were paper napkins on the table along with iodized salt and finely ground black pepper in shakers and a container of olive oil. The waitress approached and took some photos of us (anniversary) and took our order- a kale salad first, a meatball and an eggplant parmigiana and the special-a mushroom ravioli with truffles for our main. She brought out a tiny basket with cracker sized slices of cold bread. She then brought out the salad. It was kale. The kale was neither massaged, nor were the rib stems removed. She immediately brought out the meatball and parmigiana. We sent back the salad and in response to her ‘why’ we stated the above. We then started on the other appetizers. The meatball was all bread- it tasted a bad meatloaf in store bought marinara. The marinara was literally leaching water onto our plates. The parmigiana was no such thing. Chunks of eggplant with a little mozzarella and watery marinara on top. Both dishes were room temperature. The parmigiana cheese she brought to the table was clearly plastic-container kraft or some similar brand. We sent these dishes back as well, cancelled our main dish, and again, in response to her ‘why’ I explained the above. She then asked if I had read the restaurant’s reviews, alluding to bad reviews? I told her I had not. She offered to box up the food and we declined. She did not deny the cheese was plastic-container- in fact she offered that ‘no restaurant in south Florida will serve you real parmigiana cheese from Italy’’! She then BROUGHT THE CHECK!!! Charged us for both appetizers!!! I told her I had never in my life been charged for food that had to be sent back and she said she charged us because I ‘offended’ her with my comments. Comments that she ASKED FOR! She then told us we ‘obviously did not know Italian food.’ I paid the check with obvious frustration and zero tip. We then went to leave (and eat at a REAL Italian restaurant that serves real parmigiana cheese- RUNWAY 84) and I heard her and her ‘mamma’ yell something towards us as the door closed. At that point I had had enough and I sent them a goodbye birdie. This is the biggest con ever- you should definitely eat here if you want to pay for Publix ingredients prepared by a ‘chef’ that doesn’t even know how to prepare kale properly. Shocked this restaurant is in...
Read moreWow! Incredible food, wonderful service, lovely ambiance. I adore this place!! I am gluten free and there are plentiful options on this menu. I absolutely love that it’s run by a mother and daughter duo from Italy; the mother cooks, and the daughter is at the front of the house. The daughter told us that she has celiac disease, and therefore almost everything on the menu can be made gluten-free! We had the gluten-free pizza to start, which was delicious, and the beet salad, which had the most amazing dressing and delicate flavors. For my main course, I had the pasta and I must say that the flavor they imbued into the gluten-free linguine was fantastic. It was cooked perfectly, as well. For dessert, almost the entire dessert menu was gluten-free!! This is so rare, and people like me end up usually not having any dessert options. Well, not the case at Mamma Mia!! They had so many options. I had the molten chocolate lava cake, which was to die for, along with a Sicilian flavored gelato that was so unique and delicious, I can’t even begin to describe it. One of the owners came and sat with us at our table and chatted for a while. She was so kind and gracious and made us feel so welcome. I can’t recommend this place enough, I hope everyone supports lovely, local family run businesses...
Read moreMama Mia's is by far the best gluten free restaurant I have ever went to. Being diagnosed with severe celiac 4 years ago I am very picky on where I go out to eat. Being on vacation in Fort Laurdale I went on Find me Gluten free. (My go too app) and found Mama Mia's. This place became the highlight of my trip. Its a small family run place that consists of a mother, father, and daughter. They are the nicest people you can meet. So welcoming and make you feel at home. The daughter takes your order (She Has CELIAC) importiant to note so she knows all about cross contamination and how serious celiac is. Coming from jersey right outside of NY I did not expect to find better Italian food than at home. Man was I wrong. The food came out and it was so fresh and amazing. I love that the chef (the mother) comes out to check on how your enjoying your meal. Portions are large and feels like home cooked. Being severe celiac I can assure you I had no problems after eating these meals. I loved it so much that I went back again twice during my short vacation. Thank you so much for being so accommodating and I can not wait to come back once I am in the area again. (Night 1: chicken parm with side of pasta) (night 2: meatballs which are large and...
