New discovery and our first experience of an all you can eat sushi restaurant. Honestly the idea kind of scared me - I envisaged a giant buffet of supermarket type sushi and hordes of people pulling it up like a Vegas casino buffet.
But it was actually very different and this place is like a regular restaurant and you order from the menu and they bring you whatever you want. Everything except drinks are AYCE - appetizers, sides, nigiri, rolls. A few items you can only order once, and rolls with 8 pieces you can get a half order of. If your entire table is AYCE then sharing is fine.
They had lots of good rolls including styles like deep fried that I had not had before. There was a bias towards spicy which is fine for me and a lot of items with crab which I avoided. The only thing missing is sashimi which I get - it would be way too expensive for them to serve plain sushi grade tuna or salmon over and over. So everything comes with rice which will fill you up eventually. Not eating your rice is not permitted with AYCE. My wife said her tuna nigiri was probably the least tasty thing she ate - it was a bit fishy.
I had soup, four different orders of rolls, and rounded it out with fried ice cream - delicious. The AYCE option was $52 for the both of us, plus we spent another $20 on drinks (beer, sake, soda). With tax and 20% tip it came to $90. So a bit expensive however we ate a lot of good food and were very satisfied. I think if we'd give ala-carte we might have spent $10 less and definitely not been as satisfied. We'd also have not tried as many different things - AYCE was a great way to explore the menu.
Either way we liked it - next time we are very hungry we'll come back and do AYCE. But we'd come back and do ala-carte too if...
Read moreIn search of a new spot in the southeast since my old spot closed and came to LPS to check it out. It's a hole in the wall location in a strip mall, but those tend to be the gems of the city. LPS is no exception. Nice and clean with beautiful Japanese decor. The was service excellent, best in town of any sushi restaurant IMO. Started off with spicy garlic edamame, it wasn't too spicy and had a hint of sweetness with loads of garlic. Could use some chili flakes and garlic salt. But otherwise yummy. Gyoza was great, fried to perfection (3pc). Miso soup, was fabulous, not too salty, and served with usual chopped green onion, a nice sized seaweed flake and tofu bits. Vege tempura onion rings, yum. For rolls we had the Pink Lady, Japanese lasagna, Lobster King, The Josh, Naruto, Lucky Cat, Fried Banana and for sushi we had Super White Tuna, Garlic Tuna and Sarada Lobster. Everything was delicious and plated beautifully (see pics). Dessert was Mini Toast with vanilla ice cream and green tea ice cream. The mini toast was deeelissshh. Atmosphere was casual and laid back with contemporary top 40 non-pop for background music. Two TVs for viewing. Good size sushi bar seating area and decent sized dining room with one super long table for larger parties (looked like it could seat 12) All seating is wooden so you don't get too comfortable 😂 90 minute dining time for AYCE. Best AYCE price in the city....
Read moreFood is absolutely delicious and would recommend but I have felt extremely uneasy about the way business is handled. First it takes forever for us to receive any help getting our checks or our food. What really bothers me the most is the first time I went I paid AYCE for two with one soft drink and my check came to almost $90 without tip when the AYCE for dinner is $34 each and a single soft drink is $3? How does that math work? Well today I was there with family and again was paying for two of the five people there (note: there is an automatic gratuity now since there’s over 5+ people) we were there for lunch so now AYCE is about $26 a person so for two people who had AYCE and two soft drinks for $3 dollars with an automatic 18% (it was $11 on our bill) gratuity added tell me how our bill came out to 84 dollars???? The icing on the cake was when we paid with cash it took absolutely forever to get our change back since we gave them $90, and how come when the waitress realized that we weren’t leaving our change she went back to the register and came back with our change and now a NEW BILL that was only $74 dollars??? Were they just going to keep that extra money for themselves?? Make this make sense to me please. Something’s fishy at this location and it isn’t...
