An update on 11/26/2020: given the current concerns about Covid, we didn't want to put in a big effort for a traditional meal for a small family. Luckily, Zenaida's to the rescue! They offered a HUGE selection of food for a holiday meal. I ordered the meal for "6" people, $150. It included a 10-12 lb turkey, ham, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, rolls, and 2 pies. I have to tell you, I was stunned when I saw how much food there was--this would have easily fed a family of 12! Huge trays of everything, gigantic pies, and the food was delicious! They let us select a pick-up time, and when we arrived, the food was piping hot. All we had to do was get it home, unwrap, and serve. We have continued to visit Zenaida's since our first taste of them and this continued to follow their tradition of great tasting food and wonderful service! If you haven't tried them, please support this great little restaurant! You wont be disappointed!
From 2018: What a great experience!! We went there for brunch with friends and were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of food, cleanliness of everything, and friendly service. I had a BLTA sandwich: bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado. The bacon was thick, a nice crisp on the outside, though still soft. The tomato and lettuce were fresh and crisp, not soggy like they had been sitting a while. The baguette was soft and fresh, and the fries were hot out of the fryer. My other half got the eggs benedict--delicious!! The hollandaise sauce was made in-house, tangy and delicious. We also got complimentary, fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies drizzled with caramel sauce! The chef even came by to ensure our food was good. He apologized for the "wait," but the reality is it was good time for freshly made food. I even saw people calling in orders for pick up.
Overall, the food and menu are simple but perfectly flavorful, the way food should be. There were options for everyone: vegetarian (possibly vegan-friendly!), carnivores and omnivores.
The atmosphere was nice, with jazz playing and friendly staff and the bathrooms were super clean. I'll definitely be back and I highly recommend...
Read moreWe decided to try Zenaida's Cafe this morning, and we will not be returning. There were 2 of us for late breakfast, the restaurant was not busy. There was an open booth and we asked to be seated in the booth, we were told by the man at the door that booths are for 4 people, and he proceeded to seat us at a table for FOUR by the front door. Every booth that was occupied at the time had only 2 people (see the photos). It was a cold day, so every time someone entered or left the restaurant there was a cold draft, even the hostess was wearing a jacket. We asked for a table further inside the restaurant to avoid being cold, and he did agree to seat us at a table (again for FOUR) a little further in the restaurant. After we were seated, we had not ordered yet, other people came into the restaurant and a party of 2 was seated in the booth right next to our table (see photo). Keep in mind they had plenty of tables for 4, even a table for 6, so ...
We tried to make the best of the situation, we ordered iced tea, avocado toast and a breakfast burrito. The iced tea was pretty weak, almost like drinking water. The avocado toast arrived, the presentation was great, it was good, not great, but good. Then came the breakfast burrito, we had high hopes for the burrito, I can't say it was terrible, but I also can't say it was good. Just lacked flavor as did the salsa. The side of potatoes seemed tasty I had a couple of those, but when I tried to dispense the ketchup I got a plate full of water, kind of gross. We were brought complimentary chocolate chip cookies, assuming the servers saw we didn't eat all our food, and sensed our experience wasn't good. My advice, keep your cookies and make it a good experience for your customers and they'll return.
We'd heard good things about this place, not sure what all the hype is - but we will definitely not return. Between the customer service and the food -...
Read moreI’m always looking for vegan-friendly places especially for breakfast. I’d heard good things about their food and having few vegan items on the menu. They were pretty busy on a Saturday morning at about 11am, maybe 75% full, but we got seated right away. I had to ask for the separate vegan menu after we were seated and I saw nothing on the regular menu was vegan (except maybe the avocado toast - which was not on the vegan menu?). The server pointed out that they only had the breakfast sandwich and a tofu scramble available right now out of maybe 5 or 6 items. The other items were sandwiches I think, and I wanted breakfast anyway. So I got the breakfast sandwich which came with “fries” but were more like chunky seasoned breakfast potatoes. Bonus that they have almond milk and sugar in the raw for the coffee. When I got my plate, At first glance it seemed a little skimpy for $15, but it was actually quite a lot of food and really delicious! The sandwich was a vegan chicken patty (breaded and fried), a hash brown patty, thin slices of avocado, red onion, and raw jalapeño, and a little vegan mayo on a toasted bun. Not a huge sandwich but a perfect portion. The thinly sliced red onions were a little too strong so I took the rest off after my first bite. The potatoes were perfectly cooked too - crispy outside, soft and fluffy inside. I thought maybe ketchup would be needed, but they were lightly coated and great plain. My husband (not vegan) ordered the chicken fried steak plate, and he liked that as well. The owner (assuming) came by to check on us and said they will be adding to their vegan menu, which is great to hear! We will be returning again whenever we’re...
