El Gordo Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Winslow

I've been in this location now a handful of times, food is really good but there are two issues I'm concerned about one being the day time management and front staff today Sunday July 21,2024 was absolutely not friendly at all, to be honest everytime I go in the same guys never are, seems like they don't want to even be there... second issue I'm not against smoking marijuana but I could totally tell the way there eyes are, they way they speak and act that they are getting high either at work or right before... even confronted one and he laughed and told me he was high I was like alrighty then, now know he is a manager shocks me... last other issue and I wish I could post photos because I have never been told as many times as my family and I have gone there they upcharge a service fee for using cards... there suppose to let you know but not once have I ever been told that, can you imagine how much everyone is getting those charges and how it adds up and that staff is not letting customers know, well I will for sure not only writing these reviews but speaking to many more outlets about that issue or sure... reaching out to the restaurant tonight I got so speak with a employee name Mercedes and she was so polite, her customers service and concerns about how I was feeling, she needs to be the manager, her professionalism was totally management and her skills speaking to me and helping me and lead to a way of getting help was very pleasant, I so appreciate her tonight... so BEWARE to all residents of winslow and surrounding areas about these issues keep your eyes open to how this restaurant is being ran plus the extras charges they add with out your...

I highly recommend coming here for Mexican food. I’ve tried many places in winslow and they all are low quality except for this restaurant. Their meat is of good quality and their preparation is too. The place is clean and the staff is friendly and attentive. The salsas are also really good, not too hot or watery. The carne asada burritos are the best. I had their birria tacos and they are also very good. The enchilada sauce was a bit on the sour side. The Al pastor burrito is nice. The atmosphere is very simple as there’s not much decor or anything like that but i don’t mind because everything is isn’t old. There’s plenty of space to sit and not be crowded with others. I’d have to say that food is DELISH! A busy place for being at a truck stop, but I would like to brag about one of the workers there, Mercedes. She has great customer service, very attentive, and such a sweet young lady. Nothing was wrong with my order the last few nights I have went in I did take out tonight haha. She took care of everything & then some.. the younger kids in there should be talked to or just terminated. Mercedes always has a smile on her face & has the upmost respect for everyone. I would hope that she is being treated with nothing but kindness while she’s employed there because people LIKE HER are hard to find. It would be a shame to not see her bubbly self working the cashier/front...
