Short review: Great food, nostalgic look, but the service was AWFULLY slow for burgers and shakes.
Long review: Being in the area, we had to go to the Big Boy that was opening in the area. We went in there to order takeout (burgers and 2 shakes), and the total was a lot more than expected. (There is a local discount, you just have to show them your driver's license. However, after looking at the emailed receipt, the discount was only applied to half of our order.) We were told it was going to be a 15 minute wait, and we had an errand to do. 10, 15 minutes later, we returned. The only waitress that was at the counter was one we saw on the phone when we originally came in, and she was still on the phone, kneeling in the corner. It took another 5-10 minutes to get another waitress to ask if we needed a table, and we told them that we were picking up our order. After that first lady, two other ladies followed, both asking us if we needed a table. And after another 10-15 minutes, our burgers were ready, but not our shakes. We told the guy about the shakes, as well as the local discount error, and he replied saying that it was his first day, and he'd have to get someone else. We asked another lady, who was cranky and complained, saying we need to find whoever took our order. Then, a guy came (presumably the manager) and asked us what was wrong, which for the two-thousand time we explained the situation. He responded that he'd get on the shakes, but we still have to find whoever took our order to fix the local discount. After being in there for half an hour, we found the lady who took the order, and then again, explained the situation. She gave us a $5 bill (even though we originally paid using card) and said she'll get the shakes. And another 5 minutes pass, the manager returns with one of the milkshakes, saying they don't have the flavor for the other one. We pick out a different one, wait another 5-ish minutes, and we finally have our order completed. I know this isn't McDonald's-speed fast food, but it shouldn't take so long just for our order. For being a couple days after opening as the summer season is concluding, and the tables weren't even half full, it shouldn't take so long just for that. Even though they just opened, they shouldn't be struggling this badly. Even another reviewer on here noted that the employees seem poorly trained. However, the food was really good! Assuming this place can fix their service, this place could really kick off! This experience just...
Read moreThey were accommodating and the waiter was attentive. Having said that:
Bathrooms were filthy - for a place that restricts public access to restroom (which I agree with) unsure who went- to -town within the few hours this place was open. SOLUTION: Assign an employee to the designated restroom every two hours.
Fly orgy - if flies are having a party in front of the customers, I can't imagine what's going on behind the scene (kitchen). Any party of 2 should sit at the bar, but the booths were fly central. Not a fan of the idea of a fly landing on our food after having settled on a dead mouse/or patrons. SOLUTION: keep kitchen doors/screens closed. Hang fly traps. Wipe down table, seats, and under the table after a party leaves. They do this at the middle level restaurants.
Atmosphere - the room was stuffy, and crowded. SOLUTION: more lights to brighten it up, fans on during operation hours, air purifier, install mirrors for wider space. Febreeze plugs in washroom and lighter scented for main dining space (especially near waiting space). W
Food - just did not taste good because it lacked flavor. Are you reheating frozen foods? SUGGESTIONS: if so, kick it up by seasoning the burger patty. Toast the inside portion of the bun with butter garlic ). Outside of bun should remain soft, and warm.
Through some Popeyes type seasoning on your fried chicken breast, and other chicken menu options. Research how to advance menu options to the next level.
Alcohol beverages were dry.
Also, we were charged extra for our group (not to our knowledge). SOLUTION: be courteous to customer needs. This means, if the employee sees a group (that will be charged additional fees), please inform the group prior to seating about the charge. This allows the customers to make an informed decision.
Lastly, I've worked as a consultant for start up restaurants. After reading this, and if you choose to respond, keep it short and simple, example: "Thank you for your feedback. We will consider the changes to improve the overall quality."
Reason being is, long winded excuses/explanations do not cut it with current competition. Create a timeline for change, set actionable goal deadlines for a month, and a day from reading...
Read moreWhile the food was good and the place is adorable the service is HORRIBLE. I was with my husband and elderly father. My dad has dementia. He is very pleasant and I try to not make anything a big deal in front of him to make him feel weird because he deserves to feel dignity and respected. The waitress took our order and due to his dementia and having a hard time explaining what he would like I ordered for him. Why? Because he's my dad I know what he wants to eat and its just easier then holding up the waitress while he tries to tell her he wants a burger and fries. The waitress gets snotty and says "hold up sis, lets pops order for himself". I said no he would like a cheeseburger and fries please. She rolled her eyes and literally spun around and walked off like it was somehow offensive to her that by her saying something HIGHLY offensive to both me and my dad that she was somehow the offended one. I should have gotten up and left but I still tried to make the best of things. She brings the food and puts the plates down kinda aggressively. Then my husband went to the bathroom and overheard her talking to someone else and mocking us. Saying we are stupid tourist. Also she never once did she come back to check on us. We had to get someone else to get us the bill. To say I'm beyond upset and disgusted by this behavior is putting it lightly. People should not need to explain to the staff why we might be ordering for what looks like an able bodied adult male. Frankly it's none of your business. People have disabilities/diseases/handicaps that can't be seen all the time that shouldn't have to be openly addressed to the waitress to make her feel better about herself. Staff training on how to just take the order and not insert yourself in why things might happen like this should happen. There are people with autism that might not be able to order. There are people with speech impediments that might be scared to stutter in front of people. Stop this behavior immediately. I am a local and will never spend my hard earned money back in this place ever again after the blantant disrespect and...
