Will NEVER return here. (RANT INCOMING)
The last encounter I had here, I walked in to sushi chef digging for gold aggressively behind the counter in broad daylight- COMPLETELY unbothered by me seeing him! Gloves on and all! Grossed me out so bad I avoided the place for months.
This evening, even though I was completely hesitant and disgusted with my previous visit, my relatives still enjoy the food, and I opted to give it another go despite my experience... HUGE MISTAKE.
My main sushi go-to is closed on Mondays, so with much convincing, I called in and ordered three rolls- shrimp + sweet potato tempora, and a spicy crab roll. I called in for this order, and not even two minutes later, realized the remainder of my family wanted takeout as-well, and called back explaining that I would like to put my order on hold since it would change, and that I would call back again with a different order when I was ready. I called again only two minutes later and I asked if the initial order had already starting to be made, and they said only one roll was in the process. I said it was fine and that I would still pay for it regardless of my order change, but not to start the other two tempora rolls. I suppose by this point the employee helping me was beginning to get agitated, since his tone changed a bit.
The mistake I made was when I called back one final time to ask what roll was in the process of being prepared since I hoped to order more and didn't wanna order the same roll that was already made twice. He must of took it as me canceling, and told me it was fine if I didn't want it. AGAIN, I said I would pay for the roll, but by then, the employee quite LITERALLY audibly and loudly sighed, hanging up on me. I was literally shocked. I didn't even get to add to the order and feared even bothering calling again; all in all, it totally upset me, because each call was literally less than 30 seconds and I told them my intentions prior, so the attitude was really unnecessary. Regardless, I opted to do the right thing and pick up the roll anyway since I didn't feel it was right to leave it there and not pay.
Guess what happened next? Walked in, and turns out, either my original roll was either never made to start, or it was trashed, because the employee took it upon himself to assume I wasn't coming (possibly rationalizing that I called numerous times just to order food for fun, I suppose?) despite my CONSTANT pestering that I would. All the employees looked at me like I had four eyes when I brought out money to pay for the roll I said THREE TIMES that I was coming to pay for. I literally stood there as they fumbled to prepare a new roll I didn't even want anymore. In the end, I didn't even bother ordering anything else for the rest of my family and I gave the roll away immediately after, getting us something new for dinner. I wouldn't spend a cent more here again, because the food is not even worth the stress. Not ONCE did I disrespect them, raise my voice or make a scene over the phone, nor did I ever do such a thing to them in person. In hopes of not making myself look like a Karen, I just paid and accepted I wasted my time and money.
The vibes are always off there and I definitely get racist vibes on top of the nasty attitudes always received with dine-in- Ultimately resulting in me not EVER coming in to eat, and picking up each time to avoid the...
Read moreI arrived with my son and noticed the crew members were ready and eager to serve. However, the welcoming phase came slowly and we had to wait to be acknowledged. After receiving menus and exchanging pleasentries we had to wait again for our order to be taken. Yoshi Sushi and Teriyaki seems to be receiving plenty of take-out orders to keep the kitchen busy but at the time we arrived there were only 3 people seating at an indoor table with a baby. No more guests in the restaurant so the waiting time went unexplained to me. After ordering, we got a Homemade Lemonade and one glass of water. Why not bring two glasses of water, if we are two? Then, after a while, the food arrived. Food was hot and in decent presentation. However, the Shrimp Tempura with Veggies and Fish Tempura apettizers were too heavy on the breading/battering. It was very difficult to find the shrimps ( only two shrimps that look like artificial shrimps... and two veggie tempura) and the small white fish bites ( the fish had a good appeareance and texture but very tiny pieces...). The Fried Ice-Cream was just that. Nothing special worth mentioning. What I found odd was that not a single time our table was cleaned after eating two appetizers and a main dish plus the waiter asked me to keep my dirty utensils after retiring the dirty appetizer dishes. Why? After eating basically nothing from these two appetizers, I ordered a scallions beef wrapped dish that was a better choice and to be honest despitr having nothing exceptional to it, I felt like it was a good choice. The homemade lemonade looked good. I didn't taste it. I will say that perphasp is a good place to order from and make a quick stop for a quick bite. They don't sell alcohol but have a shelf for patron to leave their BYOB. The restaurant will benefit from an update to the decor and from a deep cleaning and/or shampooing their carpeted floors and/or rugs. They look dirty on some spots in contrast with less stepped-on areas. The bathroom was okay. Overall, my rating is a 3 star reviews. I could come back but it's not an impressive place to...
Read moreMost amazing sushi, flavors, food and experience EVER! I rarely, if ever, write reviews but my wife and I have lived all over the country beginning in So Cal west coast all the way to east coast, North and South zig zagged in between including several top metropolitan areas and can attest to Yoshi having the best sushi and home environment of all time! They deserve more than a review. Confident Gordon Ramsay would lick the plates, as we do. Since our first visit we have been coming here once a week for the last three months since moving to New Jersey. This was aligned with the timing of ownership change. Nicole serves us, her husband is a top sushi chef from Brooklyn, her brother his excelled apprentice, and the rest of the staff is just as dialed in. The sauces, flavors, structure, and pure attention to detail demonstrate the love, care and passion they put into their art. They put people first and are committed to providing the most amazing care and experience. Not only are they BYOB, they encourage it (we were hesitant on our first visit bringing in a few bottles lol). They will make sure whatever you bring is going to add appreciation to compliment your meal and experience; you will be offered an ice bucket for your wine or beer, shaker for your vodka martini, ceramic clask for your saki while heating it if you’d like, AND correct glassware associated with with anything you bring! Truly amazing and we have found our new home! A place like this is SO rare these days, seriously the best and our hearts sing for Yoshi to wind down our bust work week on a Friday or Saturday. Nicole will turn up the music a bit in the late evening (if it’s ok with current clientele and environment) and we have an absolute blast. Yoshi is a must visit! I also must admit we’ve broken down during the week dreaming of the flavors and ordered delivery or take out as a guilt pleasure! We just can’t get enough. Hope this is helpful to your consideration and DO NOT be shy to open up to Nicole and the team, they will be stoked to take care of you and become your new friends and...
