We booked Century Inn December 2021 for a Wedding event from 11 PM - 1 AM on September 24, 2022. We paid the amount in full and we were told we booked plenty early and the date was available. We double checked the date.
When we reached out a couple of days ago to add some food to the menu, we were told that they accidentally double booked us with a Roger Stone Golf Fundraising event they have every year starting at 6 PM.
After asking what our wedding event even was (they weren't sure if it was our reception or not), we were told that they could do both events, and that they could flip the tent quick enough to accommodate both groups as our event started at 11 PM and their event starts at 6PM. They just wanted to check with the fundraising group first. They said we could use their deck while we waited for the room flip.
Today, they are telling us that they are cancelling our event because they will not kick the other group out early and their hands are tied.
We now have less than four weeks to find a replacement venue after all invitations have been sent out and other vendors have been booked.
When I asked why we weren't notified sooner, she responded "You're not listening to me, Amanda booked it. [Not me]" When I asked when Amanda left, she told me she didn't know.
We were offered a refund and an "apology" stating that the employee who booked us wasn't working there anymore, so it's not their fault-- or evidentially, their problem.
They were not willing to compromise, and had no further interest in helping us. I asked if we could share the tent or if we could use the deck that had been offered the day before. No.
While I understand that the golf fundraiser is an important event for those families and individuals participating, this was an important event for us as well. We booked 8-9 months in advanced in person, paid the total amount owed in full, and followed up. The apology we got was insincere and when we tried to find a compromise that worked for everyone, they shut us down.
I am posting this to caution any other group wanting to book an event with them.
Fun little update*
Dee was the employee from Century Inn who we have been speaking to the past few days. She was the one who told us it was Amanda, an employee who no longer works with them who booked us and it was her fault.
Dug out the receipt and guess who’s name checked us out for our deposit and full payment back in...
Read moreI think I have finally found my new neighborhood spot!
First off, I love the old feel of the atmosphere. And I don't mean old like people old, I mean, you can tell that this place really has history! In fact they tell the whole story on the back of the menu, seriously, read it! This place has a little bit of everything, chicken, burgers, pasta, appetizers, cold and warm sides, and even mashed potatoes! The burgers are just ok in my opinion. It seemed a little bland, and lacking in the burger itself, but I've been eating Gas Light burgers for awhile though too. The chicken wrap is really good, as well as the chicken quesadilla app. It's seriously enough for a meal. The fries are good with a nice seasoning, and the coleslaw is a slight amount, a little drier and a little oniony but not bad.
This place has plenty of room. It's looks are deceiving. The one side of the restaurant stretches a good length. There's tvs on near the fireplace and bar to catch a game, and the back dining room has nice big round tables for larger parties. What really stands out here? The deck. And its not just a little tiny porch, no. its all out extra bar and seating deck. And even better? The lawn (yes lawn, its that big I'm calling it that!) Is all nice and set up with concrete blocks for cornhole in the summer. And again, not just one or 2 sets... No, at least 6....
They have 99 CENT margaritas on Weds, $1.50 Bud and Bud Light drafts on Mondays, and karaoke on Thurs and I believe Sat? It's a great bar and restaurant, even if it is a little tricky to get in and out of the parking lot, being on the corner of...
Read moreThe atmosphere is good unless you're seated by the kitchen door, which is awful. Due in no small part to how much pressure is put on the servers. They're clearly understaffed and are flying in and out of the kitchen super quick and the door is super noisy. Speaking of service, the crew was really working super hard. Our server was working her third double in a row and you would have never guessed until she said as much. The food is pretty good, but nothing special these days. It seems that even their awesome onion rings of years past are gone because we we were served what were clearly manufactured, frozen and bland onion rings this past week and everyone was disappointed. Mixed drinks are tiny and are $10 even with well liquor, which is just absurd. I'd give negative one star for location, but it's not Century Inn's fault that Woodland and Glendale haven't fixed the intersection outside of the restaurant which is one of the most bizarre and dangerous in all of Southern Ohio. Finally - and this didn't affect my rating but it has to be said - be aware that there are a lot of rednecks and other douchebags that frequent this place and I felt unwelcome and uncomfortable at various points because I present feminine even though I was just having a nice dinner with my extended family and not bothering anyone. Just to be clear, I felt this way because of attitudes of the clientele,...
