Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Woodlawn

Visit Rita on security Blvd as well as the rotunda location. Luv the custard ice cream my favorite!! However the encounter at both locations are with staff feeling entitled to an automatic tip. I’m all for tipping however, the demeanor, unfriendly behavior in my experience in both locations are beyond me. I personally like to greet the staff with a pleasant smile. hello, good afternoon with a warm approach trying to initiate a pleasant kind gesture in return. TIPS: (To Insure Personal Service) is not what’s understood behind the counter. We all in this day and time are making ends meet. We all have reached a point in life where we earned/earning a living. In the food service industry some (if not all) rely on tips to manage life. To those who do so remember it’s not an automatic, tips are earned! To choose to work in the food industry and expecting tips that you have not earned is a disservice to the industry!

This location usually has amazing kind friendly staff. But god forbid you come 20 minutes before closing and ask for a milkshake. I didn’t even finish asking for a choc shake before being cut off. “I ain’t doing no blended drinks. You get Italian or gelati. That’s all I’ll do.” 8:40 pm, Wednesday evening in August. You can have what the cashier feels like making, with a heaping dose disrespect and attitude because they started the closing procedures too early., Some employees would rather treat regular customers like less-than-human rather than re-wash the mixing blade for a single milkshake. Cuz I just wanted one $7 milkshake, it’s like I brought baseball team. Just one blended drink at 8:40pm. I must’ve missed the “No blended drinks, dignity or respect after 8:30pm” sign. I have been coming to this Rita’s location since I was a child and I have never had a complaint before. They have great customer service! While at this location today, I ordered a small mango gelati to go for my mom. I was shocked by how small the cup was, especially for the price. However, I returned to the car and headed home (a 5 minute drive from the rita’s location). On the drive home, the italian ice melted quickly and began spilling over the sides.
