To be fair and as someone who's worked in a restaurant myself, Hokkaido was super busy on it's second day of officially opening, thus a question of Quality will come into play as a super busy place will. I ordered "To Go" and there was a Kiosk there to help with your order, which makes things easier. I did have to wait awhile as they were picking up with "Dine In" business. I liked the Atmosphere with Japanese themed pictures and music, though in the front door area the wall leading to the restrooms has one questionable image for children to be seeing. Finally received my order and took about 11 mins to get home. I was surprised with the bags they handed out with Online/To Go orders I like them a lot and will be keeping them. Since I had to travel home, how hot the food was or wasn't won't be in question here. I bought a Pork Bowl, Kobe Buns, Spring Rolls, and California Roll. The Bowl was Excellent, Tender Pork and a Broth base I have never seen or tasted before going to have to find a recipe online. My mother wanted to try the Buns but ended up disappointed with the flavor and texture of the Beef, it was stringy and when I tried some that she couldn't eat it was definitely a different chew feel but no flavor, given the Kobe Beef reputation I was equally disappointed. I gave her some of the Pork from the Ramen to add in place of the beef, she liked that a lot more. Springs rolls were good but gave me a mass produced feel. The California Rolls tasted very fresh but I couldn't tell if they were hand rolled or Mass Produced. We love the Orange Soda's but if I remember correctly you can buy those at the local grocery store, Smiths I think has them. In the picture below is the Lettuce that is used for visual appeal of the Spring Rolls, this is something I always admired about Japanese presentation. However the lettuce on bottom was brown on half those shreds. When it comes to Japanese Dishes I am by far not a professional, I am a cook though, before this place opened up I was doing my own Ramen, Udon, Soba Noodles, Curry's, Rice and Sushi Rolls at home, though most ingredients I would have to get from Amazon, Seems I have to work more on my flavor profile, otherwise I am about at Hokkaido's standard. I wanted to give Hokkaido a 3 1/2 Stars but google doesn't allow that, Given it was super busy I gave this place 4 Stars which over all is very fair. The food was good but I felt it could be much better, however like all restaurants speed of service is utmost which sacrifices quality. I will be ordering at Hokkaido in the future by then the business should tone down a bit. I just wish they had Tempura and Sake on the Menu. But I can make Tempura in my Wok and buy the Sake at the...
Read moreI ordered 2 ramen bowls, gyoza, and spring rolls to be delivered via Door Dash. I received everything except one of the ramen bowls. I called the restaurant initially and was told that I was wrong and everything was in the bag. I tried to tell them we were just missing the one ramen and was told they'd call Door Dash. I called the driver and was assured that there was only one bag that he was given. I called the restaurant back and this was answered by a different person, when the original person took the phone and refused to listen to me. I was told that I was wrong again and that they have cameras so they can prove it was put in the bag. Now, this bag was small and couldn't possibly fit another ramen bowl, but I was cut off and told I'd be called later. I was then told "okay, okay" and was hung up on promptly. I've eaten here several times, and it's always great. But I am very off put and honestly shocked by the lack of service or...
Read moreIf you are vegetarian or vegan go somewhere else. Since having a triple bypass I became a vegetarian and am always happy to see restaurants that offer options. Their printed menu in the restaurant lists a Veggie Ramen dish with miso broth which I ordered and ate. The description of the dish includes the word vegan though the dish includes an egg which can be left out. The dish tasted strange but at the end of the meal I thanked them for having such a dish and using miso broth when I was informed by the waitress they use chicken stock. I subsequently became sick. Later I checked and on their website it does list the dish having chicken stock but not on the printed menu they hand to you. I am not sure what they do in Japan but in the US a chicken is not a vegetable. As my friend who is a carnivore said, "meat eaters don't like being tricked by vegetarians into eating fake meat and vegetarians don't like being...
