Very dated restaurant in general - you can tell this was a super old diner at some point with very little renovation ever done. A couple other, more important reasons for such a low rating:
margaritas were subpar; disappointing really. Served in plastic soda glasses with very little flavor. Tasted like cheap tequila and soda. the food in general just not that good. The mexican rice was overcooked and lacking a lot of flavor. The chicken in our dishes was also overcooked and super dry. My Arroz Con Pollo was also overall bland and forgettable.
they close quite early for dinner. 7:30 every day they are open.

You can't find a better value for your money. I got the chicken flautas picadillos for $8 and it was WAY more food than I could eat. The flautas are served cut into pieces which is interesting. Knives aren't put out as part of the silverware, which is a bit odd but whatever. The food is tasty, but maybe a bit too much dough to meat ratio. Still, the price is hard to beat! I also liked the fact they served a healthy portion of guacamole. Too many places get stingy with guac! It's a family business, too, which is cool. Our server, who seemed to be the only guy around, was very friendly. The food was delivered quickly. Payment is done diner style at the front.

The menu prices are the least expensive of any Mexican restaurant I have visited recently which is ALWAYS a welcome sight. It has been some time since I last visited El Pastor and was hoping for an updated menu and possibly a more tasteful dining experience. I was sadly disappointed. The service was prompt and very pleasant. If speedy service and courteous staff is what you seek when dining out, El Pastor is the perfect establishment.
