Dave's Hot Chicken — Restaurant in York

After trying this place for the 2nd time, I thought it was a good time to write a fair review. The first time the service was great, but the food was just ok. So, I had talked to some people that really seemed to like it, and advised me on some things, and today I thought I would follow through.

I had the #2 sliders meal. Got both with medium chicken, one with cheese, one without. Both with the slaw & Dave's sauce, fries, and a small drink. Roughly $18.00. What?? Turns out, drinks aren't included in the meal. So much for value! I say that, because I know what 18 bucks will get me at Chick Fillet, and I REALLY know what 18 bucks will get me at Popeye,'s. Without coupons. Maybe Dave's will offer coupons to bring the price more down to earth?

The fries were really good, and the sandwiches weren't bad. The sliders were medium, and the heat was enough & a little more. If you're a fairly mild person (like me), than go no further. The medium will have plenty of kick for you! I had the mild the first time around. Not bad. If you get the sliders, with any sauce, slaw, etc., be prepared to stop and eat them, or wait until you get home. These are NOT very user friendly while driving, unless you like wearing your food, more than you like eating it! So I decided to park in a close by parking lot to chow down, and things were getting a little out of control, so I reached in the bag for....napkins! Where are they?? Ohh Noo! Fortunately, I usually save some in the car, when I get spares. So, problem solved, this time.I also asked for extra Dave's sauce & honey, and got ketchup, instead of honey.

I don't know if I will return to Dave's anytime soon. There's nothing that really makes my tastebuds say , MORE! It's not a bad place, it's just not MY place. Maybe something will draw me back, sometime. Alot of people are trying it out. Right now, this place is new,, and riding on a giant wave of hype. Eventually, as with all waves, they come in and crash. I hope Dave's makes a soft landing. Having good value, and a broader menu would certainly help them. UPDATE: 10-21-23 I have been back a few times, since my first review. I find the mild chicken sliders, with the slaw, Dave's sauce, and honey, to be pretty decent. I will say, the one young lady at the window, still doesn't understand that napkins should be put into every customer's bag!! So, make sure you ask, before they hand...

I have been coming to this location fairly often since they opened and finally taking the time to write a review.

As other reviews have mentioned, the staff here is friendly and welcoming when you come in. There are numerous employees who have been there a long time and every time I'm there the atmosphere between staff members always seems positive and upbeat - something that gives you a good feeling at a place you're about to eat.

There are several members of their staff that are great folks but in particular I'd like to mention an older gentleman named Jerry. If you've been to this location a few times there's a good chance you've seen him as he holds the door for you to enter and welcomes you with a smile. Jerry is a truly wonderful person who takes time to ask how you're doing, if he can get you anything, and make kids smile and laugh. I look forward to seeing him anytime I go.

When we picked up our order at the drive, the team was awesome, very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed especially for the Reaper. For starters, absolute best chicken hands down!! Juicy, all white meat, plenty of flavor and great spice. I got the hot, extra hot and reaper. Hot and extra hot had a kick, but wasn’t too bad if you can take heat no sweat there for me, the pickles and Dave’s sauce great additions as well. Fries were surprisingly good as crinkle cut sometimes gets too soggy, these were crisp and seasoned well! Then came time for the Reaper. Normally foods at this spice level taste awful or theres no real flavor besides heat. This was an exception! Tasted Great and had plenty of kick! I kinda expected more heat being I had to sign a waiver, but I appreciate that they didn’t want to take away from the flavor. However you may regret everything the next day loll, don’t overdue it.
