DISAPPOINTING Great atmosphere BUT the real let-down is the lack of customer service and the food. Ordered a beer and sat there for 10 minutes and never received chips and salsa. I asked the bartender if I was supposed to get them, and she said, "Give me a minute." While she needed 'another minute', there was another employee just standing in the bar area doing nothing. She should have asked him to get me the chips and salsa. Thinking back, I should have just paid for the beer and left at that point. I then ordered beef fajitas for $19.50. The server brought them out warm, but not sizzling like they usually come out in all other Mexican restaurants in my experience in Yuma - Details matter. I asked the server if there is supposed to be guacamole or sour cream with them, and she said, "No, but I can get you a side order."
Every Mexican restaurant I have gone to in the Yuma area has included either sour cream or guacamole and sometimes both.
Something else that is bizarre is that they serve their salsa in the same types of bottles that you get your syrup in at Denny's or IHOP. Trying to get the salsa out of my bottle was a hassle because the bottle was clogged. The guy next to me at the bar had his salsa bottle clogged too. The thing that really got me was the bartender (Short girl with tattoo on her fore arm) was hanging out with two customers spending most of her time talking with them and not paying attention to the rest of her customers. Another thing that shocked me was bartender taking a bottle of tequila off the bar area shelf and bringing it over to the two customers she was hanging out with and let one of them put the opening of the bottle up to his nose to smell. All I could imagine is another customer buying a shot of tequila and getting a booger...
Read moreThank you for opening up the patio and putting on the mist system early for me and my friend plus Dixie, our Mini Schnauzer puppy. We were traveling back to San Diego when the heat wave hit, and we needed a place to eat and relax that was also dog friendly, and had the capability to keep our young puppy cooled off outside in the 108 Deg. heat. The ladies at this establishment were top notch! They made sure the patio area was cool, shaded and comfortable. They immediately brought us plenty of waters (for Dixie) and cold drinks, chips and salsa. They all adored our puppy Dixie, and related personal stories about their own schnauzers and golden doodles. With all of that said, we made sure to sit at the end of the patio, to be respectful of anyone that wanted to dine without a pet close by. We also kept our pup leashed and in an open air pet carrier sitting on a chair next to the mist and under shade ( this should be common sense but …), and away from other tables. I am so grateful we found this place! Food is excellent, and better than a lot of San Diego Mexican Restaurants. I would have bought a gallon of the salsa served to us. Again, the hostess, and server were better than most front of the house staff we encounter in San Diego (not saying that San Diego doesn’t have top notch staff, but I am saying these women could school a lot of the wait staff in several SD restaurants). I can see why they have been in business since 1946. If your headed to Phoenix, or the river take a right at the Shiloh inn exit and try this restaurant. We...
Read moreI have been a dedicated customer to Chretin's restaurant since childhood. I'm 58 years old now. I've never been more insulted than tonight! I met up with my friend Steve who just lost his brother and was buying drinks in the grieving process and eventually other regular friends and customers did the same. We were in the bar and continued with drinks and food consumption all the while sharing the loss of family. We continued with stories of the past, good and sad but ultimately we gathered in being "compadres". The bartenders "Carlos" , [sic] "(India Maria, Agador Spartacus) were completely customer oriented, efficient and effective! We even shared our grief with Robert briefly before he left. Without cause and to complete surprise the "current owner" appeared and shouted across the restaurant to me that I was being racist and too loud. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Born in Yuma raised in Baja California, I grew up in Yuma and attended church next to to original Chretin's on 5th and 15th. Eventually I went on to serve my country in the military until retirement in 2007. I have lived the "American Dream" until now! Whatever the "current owner" insecurities are, until now I have always felt welcomed and enjoyed the food, drinks and kindred spirit. I challenged the "current owner to specify " and he refused. All the patrons and staff embarrassingly gave me the look of "We need our jobs, just go" , and for them I left. To Robert, I hope you understand Chretin's is all about what you are trying to keep alive! Relampago!!!...
