What to say here about The Chatterbox Cafe, what to say? Tough choice whether to give 4 or 5 stars, here is why... It's no frills, no thrills, no fuss, nothing fancy; just good HOT breakfast grub.
Why 5 stars with a small and limited menu? Because it's designed to push a lot of food out with a quickness and get it to you while still steaming. The place is small but by having big booths manages to not make you feel like you're packed in like sardines as so many other places around do.
They are cash only and that's partly how they manage to keep the prices so low, and I do mean LOW. We had 3 meals (2 eggs, potatoes or grits, bacon or sausage, and toast)x2; country fried steak with 2 eggs; split an order of 2 biscuits and gravy; and added 1 pancake... the total was less than $24 and coffee is free with the meals. This would have been $40.00+ at any chain restaurant and probably 1/2 the food would be cold.
If you're wondering how it could possibly be so inexpensive, another factor in keeping prices so low is it's designed to be run with 3 people even at max capacity. A busser, a server who passes every table ever few minutes due to the layout, and 1 cook who is also the owner. You are in and out fast so tables turn over pretty quick.
Give it a try, remember to bring cash. They have been open 22 years so they are definitely...

CASH ONLY. They do make this clear on the front door, but that may be too late for people reading online reviews.
Staff seemed to be skittish and bruised. Despite never asking for a refill of my ice water, the waitress remarked on it at least a dozen times when walking past. “Oh yes, need a refill on that”. The 13th time came with a pitcher of water, only for her to comment that it needed ice. 6 more passes with comments, and a cup of ice was delivered. Food took a while to be served despite few tables waiting.
The bathroom in the back, which stank, is where old kitchen supplies/equipment have gone to die, and was poorly lit. Surprisingly, though looking worse for wear, it seemed clean. No towels nor hand dryer.
Food was mediocre to poor. I had the German omelette which didn’t remind me of Germany. Other reviewers say “it’s cheap, so what do you expect?” I didn’t find it particularly cheap. I expect a clean and well lit lavatory in a restaurant, with proper hand washing facilities for staff, let alone customers.
Gave 2 stars instead of one as I felt sorry...
Read moreThis is absolutely positively the worst place I have ever eaten! The bread was old toasted the coffee was burnt! I saw it from the corner of my eye and figured why not Zephyrhills how bad could it be karma very bad! And the server was nice but that doesn’t make up for the horrible food! We had ants on the table and the Place was not clean at all! Good luck with his place! By the way this place has a sign on the door that you should not mess it’s 4“ x 2“ big about the size of a credit card that says cash only! They do not take credit cards debit cards it’s cash only! I feel the reason for this is because a lot of people will be calling their credit card companies and canceling the payment for the bad food. This way they can ensure that they get...
