Went to this establishment with a group of 8 people at 1:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. There was one other table of people in the entire place. We ordered 50 wings as a starter. We asked if we could have multiple sauces and were told no. We asked if we could have different sauces on the side and the waitress (who was very hot, but not a well trained) begrudgingly acquiesced. We waited about 40 minutes and the wings came out with half of our entrees. I had to get up and find our waitress who had no other tables and ask for blue cheese and ranch. As I did this I walked up on a conversation between a cook and a middle aged woman wearing the pseudo Hooters uniform (Not a milf) discussing the blackness on their bar stools. After the concluded I was asked if I needed help. About that time our server appeared and I requested the blue cheese and ranch that almost always accompany wings. We ordered $50 worth of wings, so naturally, they charge us for side sauces. We had an 8 year old in our group who ordered a turkey and Swiss sandwich that came out as some club wrap that she refused to eat (she's 8). By 3:worm we were all done with our less than stellar meal, and our 8 year old was still yet to receive her food. We were told that the chef didn't know how to make a turkey and Swiss sandwich and that what was on the menu was a special and we couldn't get it. After complaining and asking for a manager, we were told that was too busy to talk to us, they did take the $3 of blue cheese and ranch off our bill, and the turkey and Swiss wrap that we didn't order. Total bill was $128, which was the majority of the money they would likely make that day judging by the crowd there while we ate. Good luck to you if you roll the dice with this place. May the odds be ever...
Read moreRJ’s! The namesake, Mr. Ralph J. Lupton, had quite a few BBQ places over the years. I can attest to that!
We go way back to Lupton’s Buffet that was on Busch Boulevard in Tampa. That buffet was more of a thrill than ANY ride at nearby Busch Gardens! After 50 years, that location closed on Christmas Eve 2019.
We frequently ate at his other restaurants as well. I loved the one in Brandon, with an interior of crazy cool woodworking trim. As did the one near Fowler Avenue.
ALWAYS great food at decent prices. And great service.
I’m tickled that little old Zephyrhills has the sole remaining Lupton’s authentic faire. Even though he chose just his initials for this location, it is very much still a Lupton’s. Evidenced by all of the Lupton’s catering equipment in the parking lot.
I’ve become a ‘regular’. You can pretty much guarantee you’ll see me there on Wing Wednesdays! 99 cent wings!
I absolutely LOVE those wings. I get the breaded ones, which have a slightly sweet note mixed in with the Yeehaw Buffalo kick!
On non-wing days, I definitely love getting other menu items. I also love their ‘Side Salad’. This salad is bigger than a lot of what other places serve as a meal-sized salad! And it’s dang great.
Ribs. Ribs. Ribs! That’s my other main Lupton’s go-to. Lots of lip smacking good memories there.
I tell EVERYBODY about RJ’s. I invite everyone out for wings. And things. You can ask them,...
Read moreHere's the thing about RJ's... What we've discovered is that the service and food quality greatly depends on when you go. We've tried multiple items over the years and the one thing they do well are their bone in wings. They're HUGE and always cooked through and very juicy. The Club wrap has been very good as well! Their coleslaw... Just don't! The recipe needs to be adjusted as well as the temperature it's served at especially having mayo in it. We've also realized that you must remind most of the servers that wings should come with celery and dressing for dipping. While this is clearly the fault of the kitchen, I'm sure they serve enough wings to see what is missing and what's unfortunate is that many of them don't understand that their tips reflect some of this but hey, if they don't care about the details of what they're serving, it is what it is. On our last visit, the chef seemed to be much more concerned about smoking than doing his job. Don't get me wrong, I'm a smoker, but take your breaks accordingly and please serve the people who are keeping...
