Summary:
Poor service, small portions, and very expensive.
Food: Taste was ok, but everything on the menu is very expensive for Uzbekistan standards
Service: Appalling. Staff are very rude, and hard to get hold of if you need anything. We ordered the tandoori lamb and were told 1 portion is 100g and costs 26,000 som. When it came to pay the bill we found that they were charging us for 300g. The same staff member said it was 1 portion is 100g and then changed his tone and said actually smallest portion is 300g and they charge you for the weight of meat you eat. First of all, we were given the wrong information, secondly he tried to argue he never said that 1 portion is 100g (even though he said it multiple times). He argued perhaps I have bad hearing or bad memory. He called the manager who was also extremely unhelpful and just stood there like a rock, not budging from their position. He argued we ate all the food (which we finished as we don't waste food and we didn't know there was more than 100g, we've never been to a restaurant where food is charged by weight and priced per 100g very bizarre, and very cheeky and misleading). Eventually they offered to drop 100g and charged us for 200g, although really this should have been to the 100g we had ordered).
Prices: they charge you around 9000 som per bread and give such a small portion of bread you have to order loads to have enough to eat your food with. Ridiculous, this is Uzbekistan which is known for its bread, giving such a small portion of bread forcing you to buy loads of small pieces. The drinks are expensive and you only get 250ml
The total bill (and we only ordered 1 main and shared it between us + 2 somsas and a cold mezze platter) was about 350,000 som!
Significantly more than what you'd spend on lunch in Europe. You're better off going to a cheaper place where you'll get more food at a cheaper price and wouldn't be any worse in quality.
The service here really gives a poor impression of Uzbekistan, contrary to our experience elsewhere where we've had a lovely time. It's a shame as the aesthetics of this restaurant are beautiful, one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants I've eaten, from the main seating area, to the bathroom to the decor it's beautiful and really gives a raw authentic Uzbek feeling. Shame the experience doesn't match the appearance.
Don't fall for the Instagram design and the appearance of this place, it's...
Read moreWe were invited for a birthday party, and this was my 1st time here at Tandiriy. The restaurant itself opened just 2weeks ago and had lot of adds in the social media. As the owner is an experienced manager and has several popular restaurants. The restaurant is very beautiful and decorated in local style. So, we had some small sandwiches with labne and other stuffing on the top, in general, I didn’t like as it was rather dry. Then we had samsa and mastava (rice soup) both were very delicious. Then we had chicken and lamb cooked in tandoor. However, both weren’t as good as we expected. The chicken wasn’t the fresh one and was warmed in the over probably. Same for lamb, as even the color of meat was white, but when it is really tandoor the meat comes out dark. We complained to the manager and then some of us went down to tandoor where they cook the meat. When they came up and brought us a just cooked lamb from tandoor it had a huge difference with the one we had earlier. They also do not serve alcohol here, so if you are fond of some alcohol, just avoid this place. But this is Uzbekistan, so after some discussions they let it in. They also do not serve forks, and we ask for forks they say we offer gloves instead. But to our surprise, we saw a table next to us where local people with some foreign guests were having dinner and they were eating meals with forks. That means, the restaurant does not respect our local people and makes them eat the food in gloves. But when it comes to a foreigner, they do it different. THAT’S weird!!! The service is good, but not excellent. Despite many empty tables and many waiters, at times we had go and get the glasses and etc. ourselves from other empty tables. Overall, I have more negative impressions about the food (I do not know the prices yet). I will not come to this place until they make proper changes and I actually I don’t know the meals I should...
Read moreTandiriy Restaurant certainly excels in creating a captivating and original atmosphere. From the moment you step inside, you're immersed in a beautiful ambiance that's truly remarkable. However, when it comes to the food, the experience takes a disappointing turn. The variety of dishes offered is exceptionally limited.
We decided to sample the signature Tandir meat, only to be met with disappointment. The meat was excessively fatty, with an insufficient amount of actual meat, falling short of the standards we expected. As someone who has enjoyed Tandir meat in various places, this rendition was by far the worst.
Additionally, we ordered the bruschetta, expecting a flavorful appetizer, but were instead presented with a lackluster dish. The bread seemed to be of poor quality, and the toppings consisted of haphazardly arranged, low-quality vegetables, failing to live up to the essence of true bruschetta.
Overall, while Tandiriy Restaurant boasts a stunning location and atmosphere, the subpar food quality left us feeling disappointed. It's a shame that such a promising establishment falls short in delivering a satisfying...
