I should have guessed that it was in a touristy area, but the reviews were so high so thought I'd give it a try. Com Tam means broken rice and the taste is different from just plain rice.
Our rice was NOT broken rice, it was just plain white rice. You can see in the photos it's not broken rice! Actual broken rice costs more because it's actually broken up and tastes different. However, again, since it's in a touristy area, and they banked on the tourists not knowing the difference anyway so they can charge more...that's very disappointing!
The pork chop was the thinnest sliver of meat possible. I mean I'd say maybe 10-12 sheets of paper stacked up would be the approximate thickness (thinness is more like it).
The staff and nice and responsive. They were nice and so I gave them 5 stars.
The sweet fish sauce it salty. The purple pickle stuff is good, they got that going for them but that doesn't belong in a traditional cơm tấm bì!
Overall the pork chop was flavorful but seriously for the price, there should be at least 2 paper thin meats if they're gonna charge $3.20. The egg was fried right. The egg with meat that accompanies Com Tam dish as posted in the photo was quietly replaced with 2 fried tofu pieces..what the hell is that?
I gave it a 2 star because the rice was a disappointment- especially because the name of the business says Broken Rice dish as well as replacement tofu. In addition, where is my Bi to go with cơm tấm bì and bean sprouts? Seriously!!
The negative star was for false advertising.
The Salted Ice coffee was disappointing as well. It tasted like chocolate with salted cream.
Won't come back here, this false advertisement to me. Go to another place if you want to actually eat authentic...
Read moreReally wanted to like the food here, but it was a little disappointing. The Com Tam I ordered on grab for 25k dong tasted slightly better and more traditional than here. This restaurant's pork chop was a bit sweeter and not as balanced as I was hoping for. Still good but not the best, especially for the price. Pho was solid, broth was flavorful and tasty with lots of rib meat included, though a little fatty. Coconut shrimp was quite an experience of texture and flavor, definitely worth a try! Banh Xeo was disappointing though, they put squid and octopus inside which kind of threw off the whole texture/taste. The shell was also overcooked and the color was off.
Overall it feels like this restaurant is trying to elevate things but isn't quite there yet, a true 4 star experience. Worth a visit to try a variety of dishes but if you're just looking Com Tam,...
Read moreThe food was delicious, the coffee was great, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The prices were also very reasonable.
What really impressed us was the excellent service. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they even took the time to give us an honest review of the food. When my husband was considering ordering the Pho Long, they warned him that it might be too spicy and that it contained intestines, which he might not like.
Our only concern was that some of the staff members were coughing frequently, and we wished they had worn masks to prevent the potential spread of germs to the food they were serving.
Overall, we highly recommend Com Tam Day for a delicious and satisfying breakfast. Just a small suggestion to the staff: please prioritize your health and wear masks to keep your...
