Second review:
I came back yesterday after dreaming about a delicious burger, unfortunately, I have to downgrade my star rating on this place for a couple of reasons. (Read on)
This time, I noticed that they had hotdogs on the menu.
This restaurant has a sister restaurant called grilled which has amazing delicious hotdogs.
Imagine a burger from Fly Burger and a hot dog from Grilled. That’s the most awesome meal ever!
Unfortunately, the hotdogs at fly burger are terrible.
First sign of trouble was that the Staff could not iterate to me what a double dog was, I thought it was a double sized dog but in fact it was two dogs, trying to occupy the space in one bun. (-1 point for not having a clue)
OK that’s not a major problem, but I would’ve liked to have known, I pulled the extra dog out and set it on the plate.
Whoever invented this monstrosity of an idea should be shot. Hot dog bun can accommodate only one hot dog. Period.
The hotdog itself was dry, rubbery, and not delicious. (-1 point).
In terms of the smash burger which I ordered alongside, it was good. Not as good as my first but, still good. So top marks in that regard.
Initial review:
Surprised and certainly judge a book by its cover. I’m glad I tried this place.
I’ve been here three separate times so far and have tried a number of burgers. (See below.)
Service has been OK. Acceptable for the venue and price range and the owner genuinely cares about the experience.
If you need service, just call.
In terms of burger, as per above, I tried three separate orders on three different occasions, and had a great experience.
The Smash - I believe Smashburger is an advancement in preparation of a burger. I would fathom to even say that the Smashburger is Burger 2.0.
With a smash burger, the chef uses external pressure to further caramelize the meat. This produces a higher concentration of flavor, crunchiness, crispiness, and overall satiation.
Scientifically speaking, this ticks all of the boxes in the back of our subconscious minds.
This was a very good smash burger. The addition at Rosemary, initially was confrontory, but acceptable.
I’d like to try this burger without Rosemary next time. (Neutral)
After a good initial impression, I came back a few days later, and tried the traditional fly burger.
The regular burgers are also pretty good! Not too big, not too sloppy, good mixture of flavors, worth eating again.
Finally, I came back for a Juicy Lucy after seeing an ad yesterday. The Juicy Lucy is a patty filled with cheese.
It was OK. I think a lot more made this burger go over the top. And I would like to try that way next time.
In terms of pan, it’s not overly toasted, the condiments are solid, and balanced.
Next time I come by, I would certainly like to experiment with a more toasted bun, a single condiment and the beef to get to the real basics.
So far I have not tried any sides but an aside to that discussion. The restaurant also carries a home made ghost pepper sauce. Try it at your peril. One drop is good enough for me.
Five stars and I...
Read moreI found Fly Burgers to be one of the better "burger" restaurants in DaNang (maybe the best??), with a pleasant laidback atmosphere. Especially the outdoors section where you can sit under the cover of large umbrellas and watch the action of the crossroads pass by (with ots of vehicle and foot traffic to view, as the place is only a 5-10 minute walk from My An beach. This place has the options of paying by credit card (safe and secure with no extra 3% fee), QR payment, or cash. I've dined here a few times and tried a few of their burgers and a couple of their hotdog/roll options, as well as two different fries selections. Both times, I've only been offered a two-sided menu...so it looks like they're only offering limited selections at the moment during Tet (I visited 25th & 26th January). Overall, I would highly recommend their burgers but not so much the hotdogs or rolls (these aren't bad, but just not on par with their burger quality). I've tried the Smash Hit & Dragon Bridge burgers, and I thought they were excellent (with sizes on par for the prices), especially the latter. Both times, I had their French Fries options (House & Cajun), and these were very good and an OK portion size compared with the prices. They were both fresh, crispy, and well seasoned. I've also tried the NY Chopped Cheese Roll, which was fairly average - served in a partially sweet style roll, and mine seemed to lack mayonnaise or there simply wasn't enough to notice. Tasty, but not great. I've also tried their New York Hotdog (mine was more of a Warmdog), which was just OK (though I have yet to have a great hotdog anywhere in Vietnam to date). Lastly, I've tried a serving of their Macaroni Salad (cold salad), which was nice and seemed quite fresh. The staff always seemed happy and attentive during both my visits, and I was allowed to sit in their outdoors section with my dog (who, like usual, steals all the attention...or helps keep then attentive to my table 🤣). My food on both occasions was served rather quickly and by smiling happy staff members. It's good that they have Heinz Tomato Sauce on each table to use as you see fit. Maybe the inclusion of salt on each table would be a welcome added bonus. The other bonus is the free WiFi they provide, along with mostly eighties/nineties music that is played (plus some seventies and 21st century stuff, too). Fly Burgers also have a decent selection of beverages to choose from, and there are a selection ice cream tubs available if you're up...
Read moreI love cheeseburgers with a passion. I am American so I've had 1000s of cheeseburgers and this is by far the absolute saltiest I've ever had. SO SALTY to the point it made me think there was ground pork mixed in with the ground beef, it tasted as so or it was just the surplus of salt that threw the beef flavor out the window. It kinda tastes like they ground salt into the meat, then also add salt the patty on top when cooking, and then there is salt in the sauce so there's a triple effect.
No hate though as I appreciate this spot was open and close to my hotel in the pouring rain but let's just say this is an "interesting" burger to say the least lol. Ya gotta step up the quality and can start by simply reducing the salt. Btw, I got the "Smash Hit" and it was missing the onion. I ordered it with everything per the menu, the onion somehow just did not get put onto the burger lol. Got cajun fries also, overseasoned but manageable as I could scrape off the excess but couldn't do that with the saltburger. The service on the other hand was good as the girl that served me was very nice and the food came out in a reasonable time. My offer - I'd like to meet the owner and cooks. I will personally show how to make a beautiful American smashburger with cheese. I am very good at this. Any day, any time. God bless. Mike
UPDATE/Response: When you have multiple reviews stating the exact same issue with the food, it's not just a customer's particular taste or the cook just that night, it's an actual issue. The burger was low quality due to this and I strongly believe it is not 100% beef that you use. Compare any 100% beef patty to Fly Burgers and it will will taste completely different. You should try to evolve and become better, not just sweep it under the rug as if this is nothing or blame the customers taste... Know this, for every customer that writes a bad review, there are 10-20 unsatisfied customers that will not write a review and just never go to Fly Burgers again. Also, you didn't even address the point I made about the burger missing onion. Continue as you like but I gave you fair warning. Listen to your customers, and not just the praises. Become better. End of story.
Tip to other travelers: Actual quality cheeseburgers can be found at Roadhouse, Bikini Bottom Express and...
