Do not come here if you are a tourist and cannot speak Vietnamese. Also, DO NOT come if you don’t drive. Lastly, DO NOT come if you don’t enjoy getting shocked by sudden blast of music.
I wanted to describe this restaurant a tourist trap because of how wildly overpriced this was. But the lack of communication ability in English really left me puzzled.
After we were sat down, a waitress came to take our order. She don’t speak English but instead of finding a colleague who can speak English to serve us, she just stood there staring blankly for a few minutes while using her phone. Many confusing minutes later, her colleague who can speak a little English came. While we tried to clarify what the prices for some of the listed items were (they were listed as market price), we were told the lobster was 1 million for half a kg and the mantis prawn also 1 million for half a kg. The mantis prawn was 3.9 million for a kg in the receipt.
It’s fine, let’s just assume it was a case of lost in translation.
BUT halfway through dinner, the restaurant had a black out. For several minutes, nobody knew what was going on. I thought we were going to continue the rest of dinner in that state. When it finally came back on, no apologies either.
Then at 6pm+, there was live music. Imagine my shock when I was halfway through a mouth of rice and they started BLASTING music. I almost chocked and threw a spoonful of rice in the air in the state of shock. I had to spent the rest of dinner in the chaotic music, still in shock from the sudden blast of music.
Then after dinner, we spent ONE HOUR trying to book grab. We tried approaching one of the staff at the entrance for help after trying for half an hour and was just told blankly that she tried booking taxi but was cancelled. Only after one whole hour of waiting, another staff approached us and helped us book grab using her phone. It was raining and no help was offered in ANY WAY for one whole hour.
So yes, this was the most upset dinner I’ve had in a very long time. Unexpectedly expensive, poor service, poor environment. I would gladly paid the money if I did not leave shocked (from the blast of music), pissed off (from the lack of service), and tired. Not worth a single cent.
Really hard to imagine why this restaurant has such a high rating. Does not live up to...
Read moreWe had lunch at My Hanh Seafood in Da Nang this afternoon. We were thoroughly underwhelmed with the experience to say the least. I'll start by saying we expected to pay more than normal Vietnam food prices for a Michelin rated restaurant. We just ate at another Michelin rated establishment here in Da Nang two days ago. First off, the location is great with a gorgeous view of the bay. It took about 15 minutes before anyone bothered to come take a drink order or acknowledge us. It was NOT busy, there were lots of empty tables. When someone did finally come, there was really no greeting or welcome. We ordered the grilled grouper, garlic prawns, morning glory, and rice. She showed me the "market price" for the fish and prawns which to be honest seemed very high but fine it should be extremely high quality. Long story short, the food was good. Was it deserving of the premium price? NO. The grouper was fresh and pretty tasty, but it was a very small one. We went with the grouper over the sole because we expected it to be more meaty. Also, we were not given a napkin or tissue until we had to request it. They gave us plastic gloves for the garlic prawns, maybe a napkin too...There are loads of places in Da Nang you can get the same or often better quality for a fraction of the price. Our prior experience across town at a Michelin restaurant was the service level was incredible. They discussed the dishes we ordered and you could see how proud the staff was to be part of An Thoi. The service was on the same level of the food and we paid maybe 15% of what we paid at My Hanh. I don't mind spending for high end food, but my expectations of the food, service, and atmosphere should equal the premium I'm paying. My recommendation would be to go try some smaller local spots for some good seafood in Da Nang. You can get 5 or 6 solid meals for what you...
Read moreMy Hanh seafood on Da Nang beach...I have been here 3 times, for breakfast, and twice for late lunch/dinner. The location is ideal, right on the beach and at the end of the boardwalk. It is open and airy with live seafood in the aquariums as you enter which hint at the freshness of the seafood. I haver tried several dishes and have enjoyed everything I have been served here. The food, in my opinion is not earth shattering or maybe not even extraordinary despite the obvious high quality products fro the sea. It is not bad, and sometimes on the right day it is very good. The view on the covered patio is amazing and feeling the cool ocean breeze while dining under moonlight and the well lit patio has the makings of a mind blowing experience. The service is hit or miss, I have had ok service and once fairly poor, it seems waving to a server to get service is the only way to move the meal forward at times. The service staff seems nice enough but the feel is almost robotic at times and built for high volume. The coconut smoothie I had for breakfast was probably the best thing I have had here and the best coconut smoothie I have ever had. I wish they had wines by the glass or mixed drinks like Pina Colada or a better beer menu. The highlight for me at My Hanh Seafood is definitely the ambiance and the view. Thye do have an a mazing book of exotic (to me) and unique seafood that is local and indigenous, which I found amazing. It is a fun place to bring a group and have som new treats from the sea and take in all that is...
