Ordered a curry-like dish without naan on purpose, waiter told me to pick a naan since it comes with it. Why not, sure. I specifically asked, “Naan is included for free?” because it never is, and he said yes. Surprise, 55k for naan on my bill at the end.
Waiter brings out a side dish. I eat half of it, then five minutes later he brings the sauces to put on it, telling me that I was supposed to use the sauces. Ok, was I also supposed to wait five minutes with my side dish? Why not bring sauces first?
The restaurant was empty when I arrived, like most Indian restaurants in Da Nang are 99% of the time. I sat across from the television to have some sort of distraction for my thoughts while I ate. Toward the end of my meal, an Indian family of eight came in, with the 40-something elder attempting to bully me out of my table because he wanted his family to sit in that space, with him on the tele-watching side of course. The waitstaff tried to direct him to another huge open area not facing the television, but you know how Indian tourists in Da Nang are (he was predictably furious and disrespectful for no reason). I wrapped up my meal to give him the space, which he was not appreciate of because Indian tourist. This is not to say anything about Indians who live here, just the tourists. If you live here or have visited, you know the difference.
Bill for little food for one person was 450k. You know how all Indian restaurants in Da Nang have a television with YouTube playing Indian music videos? Despite this cost, they apparently cannot afford a YouTube premium subscription, based on the constant interruptions by ads left unskipped, playing in entirely. I tried to pay by card, because it is 2025. They acted like they cannot take cards. I explained how there is no signage anywhere saying cash only, and that it is unreasonable to not take card payment for an indoor foreign restaurant in Da Nang while also not having any sign at all saying cash only. Magically, they found the card machine which worked this entire time. Why fight me on this? You are already ripping me off, just take my money so that we can be done with this disaster. When I brought up the naan for the bill, suddenly everyone including the manager does not speak English and cannot understand.
0 / 5, do not go here; there are literally more than 10 other Indian food places within two blocks in any direction which will...
Read moreIndian restaurant with a small pantry with Indian sundries at the back. Also appears to serve as the breakfast area for the attached hotel.
You have to climb a set of stairs to get to the restaurant but the suggestion is you stay ground level and carry on.
In terms of hospitality, it seems like uncle was not intent on being hospitable. There’s a nice terrace but rather than offer a nice seat, just sit in the back. (-1 point)
In terms of sanitation, I got bit at least three to four times by mosquitoes while dining. Not a pleasant experience that can be mitigated by the staff. (Neutral - will give it to them, maybe they didn’t know.)
Wanted a light snack, menu is set up for multiple people and large meals and they don’t do half portions. So if you’re solo and not intent on food coma, probably need to avoid.
Ordered a chicken roll (109k) and received some vegetables inside a chapati with what might be accompanied by some chicken?
Given the price of chicken in Vietnam, it’s pretty egregious to not give a generous portion of meat for a 100k dish. You get more chicken in a 20k banh mi on the street. (-1 point - I’m being generous here.)
Finally at check out was charged a whopping 25% for Tet. There was no pre-discussion on the matter, no notice. Just a nice surprise on the bill. (-1 point.)
Overall this is one of the most inhospitable shady places I’ve ever encountered in Vietnam.
There is no merit to the food that I experienced, discounting all the nonsense regarding seating and hygiene the biggest sticking point is a random 25% surcharge for a bunch of Indians working in the restaurant.
There is significant risk to the patron when dealing with establishments like this. What else are they doing to cut corners?
Would I come back?...
Read moreThe food was very good but please don't touch my food! Unfortunately because of the service we wouldn't come back. I'd contacted prior trying to find out what the vegan options were as they weren't labelled on the menu despite advertising vegan food. The response I got back wasn't very helpful for some reason they didn't want to tell me and came across defensive when I said what I couldn't eat (this was only because they had said they won't cook it in butter and I wanted to make sure they understood it wasn't just butter I couldn't have) We went anyway and I actually felt server, he was clearly short staffed so we would be waiting a while but that wasn't the issue.. we had ordered one plain vegan naan and my partner ordered a garlic naan which had butter on. The naans were touching which meant my vegan one had some butter on. The server realised this and in front of me with his hands touched my naan bread tore off the bit with butter on and put it on my partners naan bread! This isn't ok on so many levels! Please don't touch. That's extremely unhygienic. Secondly if I had been allergic that wouldn't have helped. Thirdly I then didn't get a whole naan bread. I can look past the slow service because coming from a hospitality background I know how hard it can be when you're short staffed but anyone touching the food who isn't the chef is unacceptable. It's ashame because the curry was lovely but I won't come back for...
