Tasty, spicy and cheap - they add chilli sauce to all of their tacos so if you are not a fan of spice you should ask for no chilli sauce. I've uploaded a photo of the menu; the prices are very reasonable compared to restaurants in that area. However, it also has a more street foodie vibe as it has small plastic stools and maybe isn't as clean as you'd usually see in a restaurant but the food seemed to all be prepared fresh and the stools were under cover rather than right next to the road. They serve four flavours of taco to choose from along with your meat (chicken, pork, fish) or vegetable option (potato or tofu). It also offers sweet and savoury crepes. We ordered the fries, tortilla chips, a chicken taco with the yogurt salad topping, a pork taco with the tamarind BBQ topping and the special sweet taco which included banana, chocolate sauce, coconut and cashews. My favourite thing was the fries because they were among the best I've ever eaten. Everything else was good and the tacos still had a bit of a Vietnamese cuisine feel with their chilli sauce so it was quite unique and made for a...
Read moreObviously not comparable to a taco from a Spanish speaking region, but that isn't the point. I do however think there is too much cabbage and sauce, by the time you reach the end of the taco it's drenched in sauce. However I understand a lot of people like this place, I just don't understand the appeal. I do recommend everyone go if they are nearby and see for yourself how it is. It is a real "love it or hate it" kind of place. The service however is amazing, and when 2 foreigners were trying to haggle on the price (a complete mystery why they would try this, must have been drunk) they very kindly told them that the price is firm. There are however deals, I think it is buy 9 tacos get one free (could be wrong, check other reviews to find photos with the deal mentioned), but after 2 or 3 you become full, so it is a deal only groups can really take advantage of.
Either way, the food was not to my taste but the service was fantastic and respectful. Try out this place, I do recommend it, at least as a story for the strangest taco...
Read moreAs a Texan, I have a deep-seated appreciation for tacos. As an Austinite, I feel similarly about fusion.
Taco Ngon really found a winner with a Vietnamese-Mexican fusion. The tacos, contrary to what you might be led to believe based on the quantities they celebrate, are not small. I can put away some food and I was full after 3. Maybe if I were famished I could eat 4-5.
Their menu is simple. Pick from three meats (fish, chicken, and pork), and pair those with one of four sauces. We got one of each meat, and went with house recommendations for each. We were very, very happy. Both the chicken and fish are fried and delicious. It shouldn't deter anyone, but it's worth being aware of.
Although they advertise homemade tortillas, as a purist, I would have to say they're more like rice crepes than true tortillas. Nevertheless, they were 100% delicious and completely in keeping with the spirit of fusion.
At 35K VND each, a filling meal will absolutely not...
