Poor service and unfriendly staff. We were recommended by the hotel staff of 5 Spice Restaurant and when we asked to make a reservation, the hotel staff said it is not necessary and we arranged a grab to the restaurant. When we arrived at about 7 pm, there was no customer at the front of the restaurant and there were a lot of empty tables. We walked to the counter (in the middle of the restaurant) and asked for a table for 2. The counter lady informed us that the restaurant is full and we need to wait for 20min. Apparently the customers who make reservations have not arrived and we asked if there were other tables available. The counter lady became irritated and she said "you have to come back 30 minutes later". She extended the 20min waiting time to 30 minutes without further explanation. When we wanted to verify again, she just ignored us and talked to another staff in the Vietnamese language. We were not shown any waiting area in the restaurant and the counter ladies "unwelcoming attitude" clearly indicated that "if you want to eat in 5 Spice Restaurant, you have to wait 30 minutes outside the restaurant (along the roadside). Eventually we walked off and gave feedback to the hotel. For those who want to try this restaurant, my advice is to ask your hotel to book a reservation for you. I cannot comment on the food as we don't get to try it but I am sure there's room to improve...
Read more5 Spice was a suggestion as a place for our group to try on our first night in Hanoi. It was a few blocks from our hotel so we did. We did t have a booking but they put us at a table for 6 and preferred we use a many course set menu but did say we could order off the menu. Two of us require gluten free and our hostess assured us everything would be or was gluten free so we chose the set menu. * see pictures below. The food was all very tasty and we asked for a mild chili pork and it was quite mild but they brought chili sauce and hot peppers for those who like it spicier 😀we ordered some bottled water and a iced ginger tea that was very good. Coffee came as an espresso so be sure that is what you want. Our hostess spoke and understood English very well and our main young server managed but was efficient and pleasant. We had a nice cool breeze thanks to the front door and the fan and it was a...
Read moreOur family had the last dinner here in Vietnam. The guide recommended a set menu and ordered it. The menu composition was similar to other Vietnamese restaurants. First came the rice noodles. It was good up to here. The next seven menus came together at once. Already the table had no place for previous menus, but they came out with the next menu as they competed. So I asked the waitress. Is this the style of the restaurant here? What if you can not enjoy the food and have a menu all at once? In this case, I could not experience any restaurant in the world. Later, the waiter stood in a haughty attitude behind two footprints and kept on guarding us. And, the main dish did not finish, but the dessert came out. The unilateral serving and attitude of this restaurant ruined our family's last...
