Worth crossing the highway
We went here on the recommendation of another Canadian family, and because it was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown show.
We had a phenomenal experience. We went around 6:00 PM, and it wasn’t very busy. After a harrowing highway crossing from the old quarter, we got seated and ordered 2 bahn cuon from the husband-wife team. They don’t speak English, but we all managed to communicate just fine. He showed us what to add to the delicious broth, while she made the fresh bahn cuon right beside our table.
The dish was delicious, and like nothing we’d tried before. Delicate, hot, soft rice crepes wrapped around flavourful pork and mushrooms, dipped in a tangy sauce. We ordered a third because it was so delicious - and we were stuffed. Not surprisingly, it was affordable - about $5 CAD for the three orders of bahn cuon...
