El Gaucho Ba Đình — Restaurant in Hà Nội

So being from America and eating at proper streak place anywhere in the world we tend to be a little over critical. But this review is not!

The restaurant atmosphere is nice and certain items were delicious. The beef carpacio was great. The spring salad was very good and healthy. The side dishes were good but not exceptional. The best one was the cream spinach. The corn on the cob was good. My wife's sweet potato fries were good.The drinks were good, my wife had the Virgin Sangria, my daughter a strawberry smoothie and I had an okay Earl Grey tea. Now, the STEAKS!!!! It was cooked to medium rare but it was a little cold on the outside. The plate was hot but the steak was not. There was no seasoning on my steak at all. My wife's had some seasoning and she choose a WAGUY piece of beef ribeye that I am not sure is really from Japan. I ate the strip. Staffs were being so raicist today..

I have visited Elgaucho Metropolis branch multiple times when i feel like to eat lamb chops... I actually liked staff's work effort and the foods before...

i have never been discriminated in Vietnam before... today will be my first experience being discriminated.

i am writing this comment to share my experience with other customers who may visit this restaurant.

First of all, I arrive El gaucho around 13:40 and I was thinking to take a table on 2nd floor as usual, but the staff told me that I have to take a table on 1st floor because I am alone. few minutes later, a Vietnamese guy came into the restaurent and the staff took him to the 2nd floor. He was alone like me.

Secondly, I was being ignored when I try to call staff. They were just looking at the mobile and chit-chatting, I was raising my hand to draw their attention and called "Em oi" several times but they just pretended that they did not hear me. I had to call them for like 8~10 times to get the service.

Thirdly, I had appetizer bread and Mashed potatoes on the table and I was enjoying them. while I was eating I felt thirsty so I called the staff to get another Mango smoothie. The staff came and took my order but suddenly she took away my appetizer bread and mashed potatoes without asking me anything. I only ate 50% of them and she knew the foods were still left on the dish. But she just took them away from me. I felt so disrespectful from her at that moment. They normally ask "May I take the dish?" before taking the dishes.

LastIy, when I made my order, I ordered Lamb chops. Normally, they ask "How would you like your lamb chop cooked?" and that question is most basic question that has to be asked when ordering steaks.

What I experinced today, the staff took my order and tried to leave without asking it, so I had to tell her to "please cook my lamb chop medium well done please" from behind. And what I received today was overcooked lamb chops... cooked much more than well done.

I had a good impression on El gaucho Metropolis branch before because foods were nice and staffs were kind. Today those good memories and impression has changed to huge dissapointment...

I recognize one of the staffs worked there for a long time because I saw her every time when I visit El gaucho but she was the one who tried to humiliate me today...

I never being rude or disrespectful to staffs before.. I do not know why they treated me like this. I guess it is because there was an issue few weeks ago between Korean girls and Vietnamese girls in the photobooth in My Dinh. So maybe she had a rage on Korean girls i dont know but those girls werent me and I actually like Vietnamese... Her behavior was so immature today.

excuses cannot be accepted because i know she worked there for a long time.

I hope the manager check on CCTV to see how the staffs...

As an expat living in Vietnam I do miss some of the comforts I am used to back home in Australia and have been in HCMC and Hanoi locations and really enjoyed their steak. I was also living in Tay Ho and found that the steak was consistently great and sides were excellent it was as good food as your would find in Australia. Recently I moved to Metropolis and was really excited to see a El Gaucho downstairs so my wife have been there now twice and found it consistently disappointing compared to their other locations I strongly suggest either to head into Hoe Kiem district and avoid this restaurant. The staff are not trained well so service is appalling, steak isn’t cooked as well and overall for spending an equivalent of a few hundred USD for a meal is over priced and not up to their expectations.
