I had walked past the restaurant on many occasions and often had seen the proprietor usually sitting outside and looking very like his advertising image. This time we chose to dine there and it was everything that we had expected. The front of the restaurant gives a very professional and polished image, and the eager staff were quick to seat you either front dining area, which on the day we chose to dine there was a little warm, despite the ventilation that was offered. We were however directed then to the very large air conditioned dining area, which really suited a Westerner dining on a hot soup or Hot Pot. The Special Shrimp and Squid Noodle Soup was exactly as titled, with a wonderful flavourful soup filled with colourful seafood, and with extra bean sprouts and vegetables to be added to suit. It was special indeed and very reasonably priced. This place will be a regular revisit, as the service was remarkably fast, and very comfortable to dine...

Review of Hủ Tiếu Mực Ông Già Cali
Today, I had the chance to visit Hủ Tiếu Mực Ông Già Cali and try their seafood noodle soup. Here are my thoughts: • Broth: Light and sweet, rich in flavor, easy to drink, and not greasy. • Dipping sauce: Very tasty, well-balanced, and enhances the flavor of the dish. • Squid: Fresh, sweet, and high-quality. • Meatballs: Soft, dissolve in your mouth with one bite, and finely ground. • Vegetables: Plenty of fresh, crunchy greens. • Noodles: A bit soft and can become greasy easily (I had the noodle soup).
However, there was one issue. I arrived around 6:15 AM and wanted to try both the dry and soup noodle dishes. The staff informed me that the dry noodle dish would take a while, and I agreed to wait. However, after the order was placed, I saw the staff being scolded by the kitchen staff for accepting an order for the dry noodle, even though the staff had explained that I was fine with the wait. The kitchen is open, and at that moment, we were the only customers, so the loud scolding felt almost like being shouted at in front of everyone. Seeing the staff member embarrassed, I decided to change my order to...
Read moreThe "SQUID NOODLE" - everyone who comes to Saigon should at least try this besides the Pho, Bun Bo Hue, etc. it has been around for a long time but I am surprised it is not that well known. I have been to their old shop ( not sure if it's still there) The new shop still gave me a happy ending foodie experience. Soup is hot, not too sweet. Veges are fresh. The green chili sauce is awesome, the pickled carrot and papaya are amazing. Shop is clean and bright. Price is reasonable. One of the few dishes that I really feel is worth every penny in Saigon unlike some famous overhyped...
