I went here a couple of evenings ago with my wife. When we arrived they basically said unless we were ordering a wine by the bottle then we couldn’t sit at a table. As there were no other clients there we were ‘allowed’ to sit at one of the tables until the high flyers arrived. There were about x10 staff all just hanging around the bar area. We were ordering cocktails and basically had to go to them to get served. There was an air of arrogance throughout the staff which obviously started with the assistant manager. Only one girl was friendly and hospitable to us. We are guessing she was quite new and hadn’t yet been dragged into their snobby ways. My wife is a professional photographer and had carried out extensive research on where to take photos of the beautiful city from above.she thought she had found the perfect spot so we got there as soon as it opened as not to disturb any customers. When she proceeded to take photographs the assistant manager asked her not to but didn’t give a polite explanation as to why not. Infact he was very arrogant. I wanted to look at the wine list, which he showed me on the iPad. I asked if I could take a picture so that I could show my wife. He replied ‘not allowed’. The feeling we got was that the assistant manager loved the feeling of power. It’s such a shame as the setting and cocktails were stunning but we decided to take our business elsewhere as we definitely got the cold shoulder. We had also arranged to meet friends there, one of which works for one of the most successful business men in Vietnam. So when he arrived we told him of our disappointment with the cold hospitality and we took our business elsewhere. I found my first experience of Vietnam from the street vendors who frankly had the warmest smiles and far superior customer...
Read moreChill Skybar Saigon is one of the most popular nightspots in Ho Chi Minh City. Located in District 1, this rooftop bar and clubs sits on the 25th floor of AB Tower and attracts a lively crowd who are dressed to impress and keen to party. There is a strictly enforced dress code here, so make a little effort if you plan to enjoy a cocktail up here (and definitely don’t wear Birkenstocks or flip-flops). The walk to the outside bar has a real wow factor about it, especially as you descend the few steps that lead to the terrace and take in the sweeping panorama for the first time. The bar uses lots of neon lighting that feels totally modern, and then far below you can see the hustle of the city. The bar opens at 17:30, just about an hour or so before sunset, and plays down tempo, chill out music through dusk, before livening things up around 22:00 when the DJ spins popular hip hop and dance music. Unlike other cocktail bars in Saigon, there is a dance floor inside Chill Skybar which becomes packed with the elites and fashion-forwards on weekends. It must be said that drinks here are very expensive. A cocktail costs close to US$20 and are well mixed, but no better than you will receive at other rooftop bars for half the price. There is however an excellent happy hour from 17:30 to 20:00 when all cocktails, long drinks and beers, and some wines and snacks are half price. The cocktail menu is a rather limited collection of classics, some of which have signature twists, such as the mojito, made with sugar syrup instead of brown sugar and a splash of champagne...
Read moreWent to chill sky bar on a Wednesday around 21:00, so there was maybe around 20 guests. When we arrived we were shown a standing table and when asking for a chair they told us there weren’t enough eventhough there was an empty couch and empty chairs around. We asked to have chairs as soon as they were available (honestly with these ridiculous prices I expect a chair when the bar is empty). When a table of 4 was emptied, the server brought us 1 chair eventhough we’re 2. We went eagle eyes for people leaving and grabbed a chair ourselves - all this with drinks being around 15€ each. I first had a cocktail which was okay but not on an exquisite mixologist level which I would expect for this price range. Afterwards I ordered a wine, a bit more expensive than the cocktail, which was NOT EVEN HALF the glass (See picture, this was how it was brought to the table). After I took 2 sips of the almost none existent wine in my glass, the waiter tried to take my glass away and asked me if I wanted to drink something else… the view and the lights were cool, but the laser was shot way too low: directly on the people in front of the bar and could’ve seriously harmed eyes and electronics. Very irresponsible. honestly I believe this place is a rip off.. more shine than being. not...
