Read moreHad high expectations of this place due to the good reviews and on arrival it looked really nice. We ordered our food and asked if rice came with the curry - we were told by our waiter that it did and at the extortionate price you would expect it to anyway. The food arrived fairly quickly. The red curry was warm not hot but was nice, the chicken with cashews was very good. The fried noodles were not they were pretty bland and just not that nice. We were not asked how our food was and we had to chase for another drink (a bottle of water) which we then waited ages for. When we got the bill we saw we had been charged for rice, a 4% service charge and also another fee which was in Vietnamese. I questioned this and was told it was napkins. The waiter told me in Vietnam they charge for napkins. Now, I have been traveling asia since November and have been Vietnam for five weeks and I have not once been charged for a napkin. Whilst the price is small, it’s a joke. I asked the waiter to remove the service and the napkin charge and I questioned the rice. he went to get his manager. She then said that the waiter obviously misunderstood and the rice isn’t included but she would make the waiter pay!! I can’t believe this is how the company would treat their staff. She also said they couldn’t take the service charge of the bill as it’s not optional. I asked well what if you’ve had bad service and she said ‘okay, I’ll take it off and make the waiter pay’. Again, I said to leave it on, I was not going to make the waiter pay for the service charge as it was not all his fault. But the manager took it off the bill and insisted. I suggest the waiter find a job elsewhere rather than be treated like that. Most expensive meal I’ve had in Asia and average at best....
Read more3 stars for Food and 2 stars for Service SERVICE: We had dinner yesterday and didn’t have a great customer experience from both the manager and waiter. We were a party of 5, but they only gave us 2 tiny plates of fish sauce so we asked for 2 more for hygiene reasons. The manager came to our table and said “we already gave you 2” with an attitude and we said “yes but we need 2 more”. We thought that was rude as asking for more sauces was not a big deal. Next, while we were having a conversation among ourselves, we wondered if we should order rice and one of us said we already ordered Roti cake so no need to order rice. The waiter overheard our conversation and thought we rushed him for the Roti cake and responded “don’t rush us”. We were shocked b/c we were just talking among ourselves and didn’t mean to rush him at all. We thought that was very rude. Also, he was not nice at all since we sat down to our table. We didn’t see smiles from any staff since we walked in, even though we had a reservation. No one thanked us after dinner either. It was a very negative experience at lac thai, although we have been there a few times before. FOOD: Tom yum soup and papaya salad were very spicy. The waiter didn’t ask us for our spicy tolerance. The Pad Thai and chicken wrap were good. The shrimp dish was ok. OVERALL: Given prices are not cheap and almost the same as in the US, but with this kind of customer service, we thought this meal was not worth it and we...
