Came here via a local recommendation and I was wow-ed upon entering the restaurant. There was good service, staffs who spoke good English, pretty deco, nice tableware etc but that was about all. I must say this is a good place to impress a friend or even a date (if I am ever back to the dating game), but coming here expecting for good food, I was pretty disappointed.
The first dish was steam clams and although it looked pretty (seriously prettier than an average clam due to a red little part of the meat), the bite did not match up to it. Would have won a beauty contest but a winner without inner substance.
Then we had this pork ribs... A rarer item we had during our time in HCM, and it was not too bad, but u can have similar (or better) ones almost anywhere else... Whether in Singapore or in places like malaysia or Bangkok and at a lower price. There were a few other items too which we all pretty average to us, which includes the cooked seafood tower, which at 3.5mil VND, we had high hopes but we're left low in joy.. (picture not included).
To be really really fair, it is a decent place with pretty looking food... But are they really that good, or especially worth the price tag? We paid about 1.6mil VND each on average, which for this price, there are tonnes of options out there. We didn't even included alcohol as we brought our own wine.
So come here if u feel like impressing someone but for the food wise, I probably have to look for a different local guide. Overall:...
Read moreI love this restaurant! Though it’s not the OG Ngoc Suong in Suong Nguyet Anh, this place is a great alternative if you want to go for some beach resort-looking in Saigon.
I might be biased because of my love for live acoustic music and the fact that this place offers free live acoustic music every Tuesday and Friday is awesome. Don’t stop, please continue to have live acoustic music.
I came here twice during my Vietnamese trip, once on Tuesday and once on Friday of the same week, that alone explains how much I like this place. It’s all for the live acoustic experience.
But, the food here is super good too! They have a variety of unique dishes that others don’t offer. My favorites are the salmon tacos and the crispy rice with crabs. The gỏi cá Ngoc Suong is also pretty good. Other foods are alright.
People might complain that this restaurant is a little expensive with small portion sizes. But my family of 6 went here and only paid $100 for the meal, we weren’t full but the food quality and the nice atmosphere with live music made up for it.
The service is okay too!
Come and enjoy the live music while eating good food. Or maybe come for a date night because the atmosphere is really cool. Will come back when I go to...
Read moreThe ambience was very good with the feeling of rustic charm, forestry and the design somewhat envelopes the diner by way of design and the taste use of canes and ‘nest’.
Food was really soso. Had cocktail and oyster cravings and this place came up since I was staying abt 6 mins walk away. Oysters were really blend and lacks the ‘seafoody’ taste. The bone marrow was disappointing as for the amount charged, it certainly lacked depth as it was barely sufficient consider a whole bed of seasoned corn and cream cheese. We ordered tacos too and it was ok, too much mango and sweet seasoning instead of salmon.
The only saving grace was the seafood spring rolls. Each roll was crispy with a nice succulent prawn with loads of octopus bits.
Drinks wise - cocktails were priced around 200k/glass. The orange tasting one (flounder I think) was unique as they had the chilli/peppercorn infused in it. Something different and it kind of grows on you.
Overall, I think it’s still a place to recommend but the 3 star rating is largely due to...
