Nestled on the third floor at 151 Đồng Khởi, Bến Nghé, Quận 1, TP.HCM, OKKIO Caffe – Tự Do is a hidden gem that offers a serene retreat from the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City. This boutique coffee shop, inspired by Wong Kar-Wai’s cinematic aesthetic, blends retro charm with modern elegance. The open, airy space features stylish decor with red accents, soft lighting, and a cozy vibe, perfect for unwinding, working, or catching up with friends.
The menu shines with specialty coffee, like the creamy Iced Vietnamese Coconut Coffee (75,000 VND), which delivers a smooth, refreshing taste. Their Coldbrew Macchiato (70,000–80,000 VND) is a fan favorite, praised for its balanced flavors, while the croissants—crisp outside, soft inside—are a delightful pairing. Prices are slightly higher than average, but the quality and ambiance justify the cost. The use of eco-friendly stainless steel straws adds a thoughtful touch.
Service is friendly and attentive, though it can feel inconsistent during peak hours. The narrow staircase to the third floor might be a slight inconvenience, but the tranquil atmosphere and city views make it worth the climb. With its chic design and creative drinks, OKKIO Caffe – Tự Do is a must-visit for coffee lovers seeking a unique experience...

I'm particularly a fan of its layout, what with its high-vaulted space lacking not in ambiance nor in seating, and its barista island to its upper nest overlooking the space as a whole, complemented by its tastefully brutalist aesthetics with vibrant finishes. As good as its visuals are its servings, certainly up to an Okkio standard. Especially on its more fast-paced mid-morning and post-lunch hours, everything about its Tu Do branch exudes an urban, downtown atmosphere, and is a real vibe in this specific lane.
Weekend afternoons do get busy, though not necessarily significantly more than on weekdays, thus its albeit limited-appearing seating just about holds up capacity-wise, and making a stop here on a Saturday mid-afternoon might not necessarily be a misstep on one's part.
A tip to get here: from the main street's sidewalk, walk down the tunnel-like art street till you see an alleyway intersection and a score of shop signboards overhead, Okkio's being one of them. From there, take the right turn, climb up the first flight of stairs, and Okkio's doors will be the first...
