Date: 5th May 18 @ 6.30 pm. I have visited Tandoor countless times, and surprisingly the experience was pleasant if not extravagant. Noting special, but not bad. But on this unfortunate day, it was insulting and rude. We was joined with my Vietnamese friends, and I was pretty describing about the Indian hospitality to them. We planned for a Masala Chai, and dinner after that. We were 2 and 2 of them were joining later. We ordered for the Chai, and soon after, we were rushed for some appetizer. I said that I don't wish to order, but they insisted to try "Sirf Chai" said the manager. I gave in a soft excuse that they won't like the samosas. He said "In logon ko kya samjhta hai, aap order Karo" well, he was pretty strong and my friend was getting uncomfortable. I gave in an ordered a plate, he insisted 2, I gave in with him, and told him to get 2, but please give some space. He got the Chai, and the samosas. My other friends joined to. We were having our casual chitchat until he cropped up again and rushing us to drink the Chai and eat the samosas faster. He was so obvious that even my Vietnamese friend could understand his gestures. He was so unaware, that after I gestured him that he was rushing and my friends are feeling uncomfortable, he said in English " No problem take your time... No rush". I was fuming but was surprised on the presence of mind of this guy. That was the final nail in the coffin. They felt uncomfortable and asked me if we could leave. I felt so embarrassed, because moments ago I was detailing them about Indian hospitality and "Atithi Devo Bhava". Asked for the bill, but cleverly, he sent a waitress to speak in Vietnamese to my friends if there is anything else we wish to order, and explaining the unpleasant incident. He couldn't even apologize for himself, but instead sent a proxy to do that, who doesn't even know what happened. But she was brave, and my friends despite being quite furious politely refused, and said that she's unaware of the incident, so she can't explain also. I paid for the 350 odd thousands for the Chai, and left. Such a shoddy experience, I doubt if I'll even get it in India.
I remember a young manager previously, and he was pretty good and welcoming.
I don't understand this logic if rushing people to vacate tables for more business. If you check any restaurants or cafes here, people buy a green tea and stay forever, because it is so. Furthermore this guy actually lost business because our plan was for the dinner, instead we had a bad experience and I pledge to never return to this restaurant ever. Pity that the mindset has been so timid and poor even after experiencing the quality and standards the Vietnamese hospitality is serving. Koreans, Japanese, Taiwanese are doing extremely well just for the same purpose and creating a long term brand with getting good business. We went directly to Ganesh, and had a great time there. Food at Ganesh as always was Excellent, Economical, and Vishal (the host) was so welcoming. He actually saved the day for me, or I would have had to eat my own words with a shovel (about Indian hosilpitality).
I made it lengthy and detailed, because it should be so. Learn, be...

Read more“Arrogant Manager/Slow services... but Good ambiance & food” Generally I do not write negative reviews but this one star (terrible) is only for the arrogant manager & the very slow service. Tandoor is one of the centrally located Indian restaurant in HCMC. It looks a perfect place from outside & inside in terms of ambience but the moment you interact with the arrogant manager you feel like leaving the place. After a busy day at work, me & my colleague decided to have dinner at this place. When we entered the restaurant the service staff lady asked sit on a table (4 seater). After sometime this arrogant manager jumped & very rudely instructed ask to change the table (to 2 seater) as we were occupying more space (as per him). Then he returned after 15 minutes to take the order as he was only running around the place & seemed only attending European customers. He was not at all interested in suggesting any specialty served in his restaurant. The food arrived very late & when asked about additions they blankly said that it will take 15 minutes more & we should have ordered at the first time.
Apart from the humiliation from the staff the food was good. They have wide spread of the Indian menu & is very well prepared.
We only waited there patiently as we were very hungry & have no energy to argue or change.
