I walked out of my hostel thinking I’d go to the Main Street, but the buzz of all the people and the people consistently shouting marijuana at me turned me off. I searched google for a restaurant opened around 9pm. This was the first result. When coming through the door my first thought was maybe this is too upscale for a budget solo traveler like me, but I had to eat.
While looking over the menu they gave me complimentary starters. Peanuts, tea, croutons and chili mango. The peanuts were really good better than most I’ve been given in SE Asia.
Now onto food. I ordered the rice porridge. It didn’t appeal to me in the way fried noodles did, but I’ve been seeing porridge everywhere and wanted to try something new.
When I first got the dish I was underwhelmed by the flavor. As I kept eating it I realized it was just very fresh not something we usually get back home. You could truly appreciate every vegetable in the dish. I would definitely order it again, and the croutons from my starter went really well with the porridge.

Read moreGreat service with good quality food. I only have 2 days in Hue to try different vegetarian food here. Of the 3 restaurants I’ve tried so far, including San May and Lien Hoa, I’ve decided to come back to Hoa Ngiem for a second time because the quality of the food and service is just better. The place itself is a little cold with not much crowd on both days, which is a shame. Compared to Lien Hoa which is cheaper, more crowded and service not as attentive, I find the food quality, clarity of menu and service the most pleasant.not to mention the appetiser is ginger tea, pickled mango, peanuts and crotons!
I’ve tried the fig salad with crispy rice crackers and the noodle soup, both are delicately...
Read moreWe were the only ones eating here at 7pm on a Saturday night which was a shame, as the food and service was fantastic. They offer a menu with some more interesting options than the usual vegetarian dishes of fried vegetables or tofu in tomato sauce (although have these as well). We tried the udon curry, jackfruit salad and the fresh spring rolls, all of which were fantastic and came packed with very fresh and colourful ingredients. Nice service here too - we were given complimentary ginger tea and a snack of peanuts, spicy mango and croutons whilst we waited for our food. Not bad prices either - our meal for two, of three main courses and two bottles of water, was...
