La Paix Bistro — Restaurant in Hue City

This is a lovely place to go if you’re really craving some steak.

Our meal started with an amuse bouche - patê with strawberry compote. We shared the seared duck breast salad which was fantastic - the duck is tender, the greens crisp and fresh. The Australian beef tenderloin was absolutely fantastic and pairs with a lovely South African wine. The tomato cream crab pasta was tasty, leaning a bit to the sweet side. The pasta was nice, but not as al dente as we like it, but this is a personal preference. Both desserts were lovely - tiramisù and passion fruit mousse. The serving sizes were spot on - we could enjoy all this variety and not feel over-full.

The service, however, wasn’t very good. Everything was fine until the main courses. His steak dish arrives and we sat awkwardly waiting for the second main course (the pasta). Eventually we gave up and shared his main course. The second dish didn’t arrive for another 20minutes.

While the staff are kind and attentive, they were a little too attentive. There was always one or two people standing a few steps away seemingly watch us eat. It was a slow night and near the end of it a little group of them had formed, chatting away and watching us. We understand their intent was simply to be available and attentive should we need anything, but it would have been nice to have a little more privacy while we...

The restaurant looks nice inside. We ordered pumpkin soup, two beef burgers and tiramisu. The waiter told us from the beginning that beef burgers look different as in pictures and if we want to get the burger like in the picture we should add extra side dishes like bacon, eggs. As for tiramisu, she was trying to explain something about it, that it’s not like what we expect, which I didn’t understand and told her that I’d like to get it anyway. Never got my tiramisu 😄 after finishing burgers which had sweet bread and tasteless patty, I never got a dessert. When we asked for a bill, the waitress came to me to say that her friend forgot to bring me a dessert, I said it’s fine and I’ll pay for the burger. Well, they didn’t forget to include it in the bill. She asked if I want to get tiramisu now or she’ll cancel it from my bill. Of course, I chose the second option. Disappointed with the food...

Walking into La Paix was at first amazing. The menu items seemed reasonable the serving team were very friendly and the room was nicely put together.

The food was slightly dissapointing but Ngôn & Nhi helped make my experience better.

#1 Pumpkin Soup Although the correct colour and presented beautifully, it did not taste of Pumpkin, but more earthy or store bought.

#2 Steak red wine sauce & Mash Steak was cooked well, but i lost 40% of it due to fatty pieces that I could not eat. Mash Potato had way too much butter but the red wine sauce was delicious!! (Again plate presentation was class).

#3 Passion Fruit This was great! The passion fruit was fresh and the mousse was thick and creamy.

Not a cullinary delight - maybe I ordered the wrong stuff! It is always hit and miss in Vietnam when ordering western style dinners.
