Our visit to Red Gate Bakery Cafe around 11 AM on a Thursday found the place bustling and options limited—just three bagels and no scones in sight. 🕚😟 A quick tip for visitors: it’s best to arrive early, especially during weekends, to catch a full selection.
We returned another day to try the poppy seed bagel with two eggs and another topped with cheddar, black pepper, Brie, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh basil. Both were decent, but didn’t quite capture that authentic New York bagel vibe. The taste of New York bagels might come from the water, the ovens, humidity levels, or a combination of factors that weren’t fully replicated here. The owner, Ha, formerly of New York, puts a commendable effort into her baking, which is apparent. 🥯🍳
If you're particular about what you eat, consider messaging them on Facebook Messenger ahead of your visit, especially during the off-peak season, to ensure they have what you want.
While the café offers plenty of outdoor seating with fans, I opted for takeout, seeking a good coffee elsewhere. ☕
Overall, Red Gate Bakery Cafe earns three stars for its potential and effort. It’s worth checking out if you’re craving a slice of New York in Vietnam, but remember to manage your expectations and perhaps...
Read moreI'm disappointed about the food and drinks 😞. The staff was nice, but the food... How the place with food like this could has such a high rate???
We ordered bagels with pork and ham. The bagel itself was awful: too dry and solid, hard to chew, overbaked. It was difficult to take a bite. It wasn't nice and fluffy; my mouth still hurt.
The pork one... The pork was like a piece of fabric. It was so dry and chewy that it took a long time to swallow.
The ham bagel was like a sandwich from a buffet breakfast: a slice of cheese, tomato. Okay, but the bagel... dry.
Coffee wasn't good, low-quality beans.
You could buy a fluffy banh mi for $1 or this solid bagel for $6... There are a lot high quality and delicious pastrys around.
Highly not recommended the place. For this quality it' s really a rip off.
You should instruct the cook on the process of making dough, baking it, and cooking the pork...Or throw out stale...
Read moreComing to Red Gate was such an unexpected experience. I walked in on a hot Sunday morning looking for a coffee and then realized they sold NEW YORK style bagels! As a New Yorker I was sooo excited and grateful to Ha, the owner. She’s Vietnamese but raised in NYC! She’s moved back to her home country and brought a little bit of New York with her.
I tried two bagels because they were just THAT good. Loved the lox bagel - which is sooo fresh and made by a Norwegian in Nha Trang! The bagels are so soft and made with so much love right in the back by Ha herself. I had an orange coffee which was surprisingly tasty. The previous day I ate an everything bagel with egg and avocado. It was exactly what I needed.
I will come back to nha Trang just to eat these bagels and hang out with Ha. She gave me a fantastic recommendation for a locals only spa which was top notch and CHEAP! I’ll be...
